APC Urges Nigerians to Await Police Investigation into Fadahunsi’s Comments

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the police are responsible for determining whether Senator Francis Fadahunsi’s comments at a campaign rally violated the law.

Morka said Fadahunsi had responded to a police invitation to explain comments that were interpreted as a call for supporters to attack members of the Accord Party. He urged the public to allow the police to complete their investigation before any action is taken.

He also condemned the violence reported in Osun State ahead of the governorship election, saying there was no justification for anyone to lose their life or be injured simply for participating in an election.

Morka said the APC does not support violence and would seek voters’ support based on its record and performance.

UK Closes 13 Asylum Hotels

The UK government has closed 13 hotels used to accommodate asylum seekers and returned them to local communities for business and tourism.

The closures are expected to save taxpayers £51 million, while fewer than 160 asylum hotels now remain in use.

The government is moving asylum seekers to larger, basic accommodation facilities, including former military sites. Three such sites could eventually accommodate about 3,750 asylum seekers.

The government said the move is part of its plan to end the use of hotels for asylum accommodation across the UK.

Nigeria-India Trade Reaches $9bn

Trade between Nigeria and India increased by about 26 per cent, reaching $9 billion in the 2025/26 financial year, up from $7.13 billion the previous year. The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abishek Singh, disclosed this in Abuja.

Singh said more than 200 Indian companies operating in Nigeria have created nearly 100,000 jobs for Nigerians, making them the second-largest employers of Nigerian workers after the Federal Government.

He said Nigeria-India relations had moved beyond oil to include investment, security, technology, agriculture, healthcare and energy. He also disclosed that India had extended concessional loans worth $395 million to Nigeria.

On healthcare, India’s Deputy High Commissioner, Vertika Rawat, said India supplies about 40 per cent of Nigeria’s pharmaceutical imports, while Indian companies have invested about $4 billion in pharmaceutical manufacturing in Nigeria.

EFCC Recovers N115bn, $84m in NDDC Levy Debts from Oil Firms

The EFCC said it has recovered more than N115 billion and $84 million in outstanding statutory levies owed to the NDDC by oil companies.

The investigation found that 24 out of 43 oil companies examined owed the NDDC N76.88 billion and $81.08 million.

The EFCC said it had released N73.37 billion and $67.07 million to the NDDC, while the remaining funds were still in the commission’s recovery account.

Meanwhile, the Senate ordered the heads of several oil companies to appear personally before the committee to respond to queries raised in the NEITI audit report.

Government to Train 300 NYSC Members in CNG Vehicle Conversion

The Federal Government has said it will train 300 NYSC members and certify them as technicians for converting vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG).

The training will be conducted across the six geopolitical zones and is part of efforts to convert 100,000 vehicles to CNG annually and reduce dependence on petrol.

After completing the training, the corps members will be deployed to various CNG conversion centres across the country, where they can gain employment and develop their businesses.

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, said the programme would create more job and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people, while the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, described it as part of efforts to support Nigeria’s energy transition.

CBN Relaxes Rules on Money Market Transactions

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has removed some restrictions that prevented banks involved in foreign exchange transactions and government securities from accessing emergency funding from the apex bank.

The CBN has also restored tenored repo operations, allowing the bank to provide liquidity for periods ranging from four to 90 days to help manage the amount of money in the banking system.

The bank has also opened access to Central Bank Securities Buying and Selling Operations (OMO) to individuals, companies and non-bank financial institutions through commercial banks.

The CBN said the new rules took immediate effect, but banks that access emergency funding from the CBN will not be allowed to participate in OMO auctions on the same day.

Abbas Said that it would be unfair to Nigerians to elect anyone other than Tinubu as president in the 2027 election.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, Abbas Tajudeen, has said that it would be unfair to Nigerians to elect anyone other than Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president in the 2027 election.

He said the campaign for Tinubu’s re-election must be based on facts, statistics, and verifiable information.

The Speaker made the statement on Wednesday when he received a delegation from the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, led by the organisation’s National Coordinator, Comrade Sunday Adekanbi Asuku, who paid him a courtesy visit at his office.

He said there were sufficient statistics on the achievements of the Tinubu administration to justify the president’s bid for a second term.

Oyetola Accuses Accord Party Members of Attacking APC Supporters in Osun.

The Minister of Water Resources and Marine Economy and chairman of the APC in Osun State, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, has accused members of the Accord Party of attacking APC supporters and subsequently portraying themselves as victims.

Oyetola made the allegation on Wednesday in Inisa, in Odo-Otin Local Government Area, while addressing APC leaders, stakeholders, and supporters at a meeting held ahead of the Osun State governorship election.

The former Osun State governor also criticised the state government over what he described as the poor condition of roads across the state, despite the substantial funds the state government has received from the Federal Government over the past three years.

ADC has warned about an alleged plan to arrest Aregbesola, ahead of the Osun election on Saturday.

The party said it had received what it described as “credible reports” of plans to arrest the former governor of Osun State in the days leading up to the election.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, and posted on X on Wednesday, the ADC said it was concerned that the alleged arrest could be intended to disrupt the party’s electoral activities.
