It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my course mate, Ilyasu Abdullahi Gano. We both graduated two months ago, in September, from the Department of Geography, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil.

If Your CGPA Is Less Than 3.6, Do These 6 Things to Improve It

Point number 6 is a game changer.

1. Work on Your Exam Techniques
Some students understand the course but fail because:
They don't answer the question directly
They don't follow instructions
They write too much without main points

Learn how your lecturers want answers presented.

2. Ask for Help When You Don’t Understand a Course
Don't struggle alone.
Talk to Lecturers, Classmates, or Smart coursemates
You can use online learning platforms

Understanding early prevents carryovers later

3. Reduce Overloading Yourself
Some students join too many activities at once:
School politics
Business
Social clubs
Entertainment

If your CGPA is suffering, slow down and focus until you regain control.

4. Join a Serious Study Group
Surround yourself with people:
Who want good grades
Who explain well
Who encourage growth

Study groups help you learn faster than reading alone.

5. Improve Your Time Management
Avoid last-minute reading. Create a weekly study timetable and stick to it. Small daily study habits lead to big GPA jumps.

6. Identify Why You Did Not Perform Well in a Course
One of the most important steps in improving your CGPA is understanding why your performance dropped in any course.

Ask yourself:
Why did I score a C or D?
Was it lack of preparation?
Did I struggle to understand the topics?
Did I forget what I read in the exam hall?
Did I start reading too late?
Did I misunderstand the exam questions?

When you identify the real reason, you can provide the right solution.

For example:
If the problem is lack of understanding, ask questions, watch tutorials, or join study groups.

If the problem is poor preparation, adjust your timetable and start reading earlier.

If the problem is forgetting in the exam hall, practice more past questions and improve revision techniques.

Read a course until you are able to teach it to another person or even to your mirror
If you can teach the topic from memory, you will hardly forget it in the exam hall.

You cannot fix what you do not understand. Knowing the cause of a low grade is the first step to improving it.
