Police Arrest Three, Recover Over 13,000 Drugs And N400,000 In Jigawa Raid
The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects and recovered more than 13,000 illegal drug tablets and N400,000 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales during a coordinated operation across Sara, Bamaina, and Sundimina communities in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Dutse. He described the operation as a major success in the fight against drug abuse and related crimes across Jigawa State.
According to him, the operation followed credible intelligence that led to the identification of drug distribution points in the affected towns. He said operatives from Sara, Bamaina, and Sundimina Divisions collaborated in executing the raids, which resulted in the arrests and seizure of a large cache of illicit substances.
SP Adam revealed that “the police recovered exactly 13,622 pieces of assorted illicit drugs, including Exol, Tramadol, D5 Tablets, Rubber Solution, Diazepam, and five blocks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.”
He added that officers also seized N441,975 in cash suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking. “The suspects – Yusuf Garba (aka Bamis), 30, from Sara Kudu Quarters; Muhammad Rufa’i, 40, from Kangire village; and Jibrin Manga, 30, from Nasaru town in Bauchi’s Ningi LGA – were caught red-handed with the exhibits,” he stated.
SP Adam explained that preliminary investigations revealed the suspects had been involved in the illegal drug business for years, posing a serious threat to the youth and community safety.
He also confirmed that in a separate operation carried out on October 23, at about 5:03 p.m., officers from Hadejia “B” Division intercepted one Idris Muhammed, 35, from Babbar Ruga in Malam Madori Local Government Area, along Turabu-Hadejia Road. The suspect was caught with three cows suspected to have been stolen from Kukareta in Matti LGA of Yobe State.
Muhammed, according to the police, confessed that one Kaura Dillali, who is now at large, was behind the theft. He will be charged to court accordingly.
On the same day, around 11:12 a.m., personnel from Hadejia “A” Division’s surveillance team tracked down a wanted receiver of stolen goods known as Bale. The suspect abandoned his unregistered Jincheng motorcycle with chassis number LJCPAGALH06SC06496 and engine number LH0606496 before fleeing the scene. The motorcycle is currently in police custody while efforts to apprehend the suspect are ongoing.
SP Adam quoted the Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Dahiru, as commending the Divisional Police Officers and their teams for their commitment and coordination. The commissioner reiterated his resolve to eliminate drug trafficking and related crimes in the state.
He further appealed to parents, community leaders, and residents to continue supporting the police with useful information to sustain the fight. All suspects, he said, have been arraigned in court after investigation.
