As Lent begins this week Wednesday, here are some practical ways to prepare for Lent:
1. Schedule your Lenten confession ahead of time.
2. Decide specifically what you will fast from - donβt wait until Ash Wednesday.
3. Choose one concrete spiritual goal to work on (e.g., patience, purity, discipline, forgiveness).
4. Create a simple daily prayer plan and fix the exact time. Set reminders on your phone for prayer instead of relying on mood.
5. Prepare a quiet prayer corner in your home if you don't already have one.
6. Plan your almsgiving - decide how much and to whom.
7. Reduce subscriptions or habits now if they will distract you during Lent. Begin reducing social media use and screen time gradually so the transition is easier.
8. Create a small accountability structure (friend, group, parish community).
9. Reflect on last Lent: what worked? What failed? Why?
10. Pray now for the grace to persevere - not just to start well.
