SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF ADAMAWA STATE, RT. HON. AHMADU UMARU FINTIRI, CON, GSSRS, DURING THE PRESENTATION OF STAFF OF OFFICE TO KUMU GOMBI, HIS ROYAL MAJESTY, AGGREY ALI IN GOMBI ON 8TH FEBRUARY, 2025
Today, we stand on the threshold of a new dawn in Gombi. This occasion for the coronation and presentation of Staff of Office to Kumu Gombi ranks high among events that make me happy and fulfilled.
The struggle that has eventually culminated in the birth of Gombi Chiefdom is a story of unity, compromise, consensus, tenacity, dedication and faith. More importantly, it is a story of realistic hope for a brighter future.
As a historian, I know that the ethnic groups that make up Gombi Chiefdom have rich history, cultures and traditions in their own individual rights. I am talking about the Ga’anda, the Lala, the Bura, the Hona, the Ngwaba, the Fulani and so on, who all have rich historical backgrounds and cultures. It is therefore, gratifying that they all came together and collectively requested for a Chiefdom. This is firmly rooted both in history and contemporary realities.
Gombi Chiefdom is an example of the Adamawa spirit that says we can achieve great things when we come together regardless of tribal, religious or other narrow sentiments. We are one people with a common desire for freedom, justice and prosperity. Collectively, we all abhor oppression, injustice, poverty, ignorance and disease.
As a government, our policies and programmes have been guided by the desire to meet the needs of our people. We have constructed roads and bridges, built hospitals and schools, continued to pay for WAEC and NECO examinations for our children, empowered our women and youths, regularly pay our Civil Servants and Pensioners, and so on, all in the bid to uplift the living standards of our people.
The creation of new Chiefdoms and Emirates is a logical extension of those efforts. This is because as humans, we are not only rational beings but also emotional beings. Beyond physical needs, we also need and deserve dignity, self-worth and cultural identity. People want to be proud of who they are regardless of where they come from or what language they speak.
I congratulate the Gombi people for this new Chiefdom which is endowed with huge potentials for solid minerals extraction, agricultural production, industrial growth and tourism.
To crown it all, Gombi people are highly educated and industrious. I hope that in no distant future, Gombi will occupy its rightful place among the most progressive Chiefdoms in Adamawa State.
At this juncture, I wish to congratulate His Royal Majesty, Mr. Aggrey B. Ali, on his appointment as the first Kumu Gombi. I have known Mr. Aggrey as an administrator and an astute manager of people and resources who even became a Permanent Secretary in the State Civil Service. I hope that he will bring his administrative acumen and managerial skills into his reign as Kumu Gombi.
I call on the Kumu Gombi to pay greater attention on issues of peace and security. These are the foundations of any meaningful development. I am aware that bandits and criminal elements often use Gombi Local Government as transit routes. The new Gombi Chiefdom will hopefully open a new vista to the existing security measures in the area. I hope that you will more efficiently use the District Heads and Village Heads in providing intelligence and curbing activities of bandits and criminals.
I want to use this opportunity to emphasize that the ban on cutting of trees for charcoal production as well illegal mining are still firmly in place. I urge all traditional rulers and security agencies to ensure that those who violate this ban are apprehended and prosecuted.
I urge all sons and daughters of Gombi: from Tawa to Garkida, Balhona to Fotta, indeed from all across Gombi Chiefdom, to support the Kumu Gombi and the chiefdom towards making it a model of peace, harmony, solidarity, progress and development.
Your Excellency, Your Royal Highnesses, Ladies and Gentlemen, Adamawa State is working. Adamawa State is on the right trajectory towards a glorious destination. By the grace of God, no one and nothing will deter us.
The new Chiefdoms and Emirates are here to stay.
Once again, I congratulate Kumu and the people of Gombi Chiefdom.
It is now my honour and privilege to invite His Royal Majesty, Aggrey B. Ali to receive his Staff of Office as Kumu Gombi.

End of Year Statewide Broadcast
by
His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri CON,
The Executive Governor of Adamawa State
24th – Dec. 2024

Fellow citizens of Adamawa State.
We thank God for the journey of 2024. It is a journey well-travelled. With your support we have soldiered through the year, conscious of our individual responsibilities as good citizens and leaders of our dear state. I must appreciate you wherever you are both within Adamawa state and out of it. The year 2024 has been truly an eventful year for every Nigerian. The economy has been though for both the government and the governed. In Adamawa state we have all come to the settled agreement that whatever is the situation, we have a state to shepherd and a responsibility to discharge.
As a government, the force that drives us at all times has been the constant reminder of the mandate we stand on and the oath we swore to uphold. A reminder that the position we occupy is a product of the ballot box which is the hallmark of every ideal democracy. It is also a reminder that the expectations of the electorates are high in quantum and size. Added to these reminders, is TRUST– a sacred covenant, we must at all times toil to protect. This explains why we are in constant overdrive to deliver. We sleep and wake-up with the Adamawa project at heart and mind. Conscious of the burden of service, every minute matters to us.
We deployed all we have in 2024 to serve you well - our time, our energy and indeed your resources optimally. The results are evident. They dot the landscape of Adamawa state, permeating every household and touching every life.
Fellow citizens, from what we are doing in infrastructure development in both rural and urban centres, to our investment in the social sector such as education, health, women and youth empowerment, to the economy and food security such as commerce, Agriculture and livestock development to the effort at cushioning the survival crunch on the citizens by a subsidized public transport system and the poverty and wealth creation stimulants such as conditional cash transfers and the SME support corridor termed the Fintiri Wallet which has so far empowered over 100,000 households; we are leaving no one in doubt that our commitment to the delivery of every item on our 8-Point Agenda is genuine and that our philosophy of building an Adamawa where no one is left behind and nothing is left untouched is beyond rhetorics. We are indeed, closing the year with pride.
While presenting our budget of service to the parliament last week, I mentioned it to the Assembly that our records in governance are enormous and they don’t require salesmanship. They have developed a deep presence in the citizens’ lives and a voice loud enough to speak for themselves. I want to reiterate same today.
Fellow citizens, our recalibration of the security architecture is paying off handsomely. The security situation has improved tremendously. Urban crime has been subdued and our people can go about their daily businesses with the right guarantee of protection against any threat. The activities of the dreaded shilah boys are substantially degraded. The perennial farmer – herder conflict is tactfully mitigated as we witnessed incredible reduction in the cases of clashes this season. Working with the right stakeholders; the Adamawa Peace Project is achieving fast result. Not only are we achieving the desired peace but we are consolidating all the levers of unity that binds us as a people.
Building on the peace project and the attendant result it provokes; we have initiated far reaching institutional and legal reforms to drive home what defines us as a people - our pluralism, our identity and our pride. We are conscious of the fact that the fundamental answers to the question of a genuine peaceful coexistence can best be found in addressing our diversity, our unity and satisfactorily managing our identity justice system. We have equally reappraised the value of our traditional institution and found it highly instrumental to peace building and a major partner in managing the ungoverned spaces in the state.
Fellow citizens, it is against this background that we created more districts and enacted the legislation for the Adamawa state chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) Law 2024. Consequently, pursuant to Section 5, of the same Law, the following Chiefdoms and Emirates are created:
*The Hoba Chiefdom with headquarters at Hong – 2nd-Class Status
Madagali Chiefdom with headquarters at Gulak – 2nd-Class Status
Michika Chiefdom with headquarters at Michika – 2nd-Class Status
Fufore Emirate with headquarters at Fufore – 2nd-Class Status
Gombi chiefdom with headquarters at Gombi – 3rd-Class Status
Maiha Emirate with headquarters at Maiha – 3rd-Class Status
Yungur Chiefdom with headquarters at Dumne – 3rd-Class Status.*
Fellow citizens, this creation is already gazetted and now part of our statutory repository. This piece of legislation is expected to reposition the traditional institution and embolden it to smartly play better roles in our affairs; create more centers of dispute arbitration and resolution at the communal level; provide the right governance in all ungoverned spaces within our polity; form more hubs for local intelligence gathering to aid our security system and above all strengthen social cohesion and confer on our people more dignity and pride as citizens.
While we congratulate the new Emirates and Chiefdoms, we remain appreciative of other demands and agitations from other nationalities. I can assure you that this is a continuous process. With the right justification for more demands, we shall positively respond to genuine agitations.
Fellow citizens, by retrospection, this is a season of harvest. As Adamawa state citizens, we can proudly say the harvest has been bountiful in 2024. We look forward to a more prosperous 2025.
Merry Christmas in advance.
Long live Adamawa state
Long live Nigeria

Thank you.

ANOTHER BORRONG 33kv TOWER RESCUED FROM COLLAPSE
The 33kv river crossing tower transmitting power to Borrong, the seat of the Palace of the Murum Mbula and environs had suffered serious threats in the past. The level of threat which degenerated in recent years until the whole area was thrown into perpetual darkness for several months was redeemed by the Fresh Air Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Nkadan Mbula in 2021. The rescue operation which led to the installation of a new tower was the handiwork of His Excellency the Executive Governor of Adamawa State. At the time that the people 's hope had been dashed, the Governor waved his magic wand and the whole place was lit up with light.
No sooner had the inhabitants of the bustling town of Borrong and environs heaved a sigh of relief when the other tower on the opposite bank of the river began the gradual process of collapsing.
This 2024 rainy season would have been the dateline for the tower's survival if not for the quick intervention of the ever workaholic Royal Father who contacted Hon. Binos Yaroe, senator representing Adamawa South at the National Assembly.
A retention wall that would reinforce the strength of the tower and prevent it from further collapse is now in place, thanks to the good senator.
Hence, HRM Bwaltam Bently Biyapo Mboiman II and his people appreciates the ATM Governor and Hon. Binos for their timely intervention.
