Atikun Jimeta Files Complaint Over Alleged Workers’ Rights Violations in Adamawa

Activist and political commentator Atikun Jimeta has filed a complaint with Amnesty International Nigeria, the EFCC and the ICPC, calling for an investigation into alleged violations of public workers’ rights in Adamawa State.

The complaint focuses on issues including salaries, promotions, delayed implementation of promotions, career stagnation and working conditions, particularly among health workers, teachers and civil servants.

Atikun cited the case of a primary healthcare worker who reportedly claimed to be on Grade Level 16 but allegedly receives a salary closer to that of Grade Level 7.

However, he stressed that the claim is an allegation that requires independent verification, rather than an established fact.
He called on the relevant authorities to investigate reports of delayed promotions, salary discrepancies, unpaid entitlements and working conditions affecting health workers at the local government level.

Atikun said his request is not aimed at securing political action against the Adamawa State Government, but at ensuring an independent, fair and evidence-based investigation into workers’ complaints.

He also acknowledged steps taken by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration to improve workers’ welfare, while stressing that ongoing complaints should not be ignored.

Atikun said he is prepared to provide additional information or documents to support the complaints, provided the confidentiality of workers is protected.
He said his ultimate goal is to promote justice, transparency, accountability and the protection of public workers’ dignity in Adamawa State.

“Tinubu Didn’t Remove Fuel Subsidy; He Handed National Wealth to His Allies” — Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of being deceptive about the removal of the petrol subsidy.

Atiku argued that the government cannot claim to have ended fuel subsidies while allegedly granting investors in the petroleum sector tax breaks, financial incentives and other concessions.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the government’s celebration of subsidy removal as “one of the biggest economic deceptions” being sold to Nigerians.

He said Nigerians are facing rising fuel, transport and food costs while the government continues to reduce business risks for major petroleum investors through tax incentives and other support.

Atiku also cited NNPC financial figures, claiming that about ₦4.84 trillion in 2023 and ₦7.13 trillion in 2024 were spent on items described as “energy security” and other petrol price gaps.

He questioned how the government could declare the subsidy over while public funds were still being used to cover some price gaps.

Atiku said his Atiku Economic Recovery Plan would not restore the old subsidy regime, which he described as opaque and prone to corruption. Instead, he proposed a targeted and transparent support system, increased domestic refining, greater competition and improved transportation.

He urged the government to disclose the beneficiaries and financial cost of tax incentives and other concessions granted to petroleum investors.

Atiku maintained that the success of economic reforms should be measured by improved living standards, stronger businesses, job creation and families’ ability to meet their daily needs.

5,000 Qur’an Memorizers in Zamfara Pray for Tinubu’s Victory

About 5,000 Qur’an memorizers in Zamfara State held a special prayer session seeking victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and Senator Abdul’aziz Yari in the 2027 general elections.
The prayer, organised by the United Youth Scholars for Preaching and Guidance, was held on Sunday in Gusau, the state capital.

The group’s leader, Malam Naziru Ibrahim Buda, said the Qur’an recitation was organised to seek Allah’s blessings for Tinubu and Shettima and pray for the APC 2027 campaign committee led by Yari.

Buda also commended Tinubu for appointing Yari as Director-General of the APC 2027 campaign committee.

The group said it recently organised peace prayers across the state and plans to begin nationwide mobilisation and voter sensitisation.

Participants also praised Yari for his support to vulnerable people in Zamfara.
Representing Yari at the event, Aminu Adamu Dankwangila thanked the scholars for their support.

Terrorists Storm Mosque During Friday Prayers, Kidnap Hundreds in Niger State

Terrorists reportedly kidnapped hundreds of worshippers during Friday prayers in communities across Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The attack occurred on Friday, August 21, 2026, with reports indicating that the attackers raided communities including Gidan-Zana and Kpenya before storming a mosque in Kpenya and abducting worshippers.

More people were reportedly kidnapped in Masaka, Sabon Gida and neighbouring communities, with local sources estimating that more than 300 people may have been abducted.

Among those reportedly taken are the 90-year-old father of the Dekara traditional ruler and the Chief Imam of Dekara Central Mosque.

Residents have called on the Niger State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to locate the victims and secure their immediate release.

Fuel Subsidy Removal Has Boosted Government Spending on Education, Healthcare and Security - Finance Minister

The Minister of Finance has said the removal of the petrol subsidy has given the Federal Government greater fiscal capacity to increase spending on critical sectors that directly affect the lives of Nigerians.

In a statement published by the ministry on its social media platforms on Monday, the minister said the additional revenue generated from the subsidy removal has enabled the government to increase investments in sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure and security.

He explained that the subsidy removal is part of the economic reforms implemented by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restructure public finances and redirect government resources towards other critical areas.

Ishaku Abbo Calls for New Security Strategy After Boko Haram Attacks in Hong and Gombi

Senator Senator Ishaku Abbo - SIA, the Labour Party’s 2027 governorship candidate in Adamawa State, has called for a fundamental change in the state’s counter-terrorism strategy following renewed Boko Haram attacks on communities in Hong and Gombi Local Government Areas.

Abbo said the recurring attacks on civilians, killings, displacement and destruction of livelihoods demonstrate that the current approach has not delivered sufficient results.

He argued that security agencies should not rely solely on deploying personnel after attacks have occurred, calling instead for greater use of intelligence gathering, modern technology, drones, surveillance systems, Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), Rapid Response Units and stronger inter-agency coordination to detect and neutralise threats before terrorists reach civilian communities.

According to him, permanent security structures should be established in vulnerable areas across Hong, Gombi and neighbouring communities to ensure that security personnel remain close to residents and can respond rapidly when threats emerge.

Abbo also stressed that security efforts should not end with pursuing terrorists after an attack, arguing that government has an equally important responsibility to support survivors and families who have lost loved ones.

He called on the Adamawa State Government, the Federal Government, humanitarian organisations and well-meaning individuals to urgently provide assistance to affected communities, particularly in the areas of food, shelter, healthcare, psychological support, reconstruction and restoration of livelihoods.

«“Our people have lost husbands, wives, children, parents, homes, businesses, farms and their means of livelihood. These people need more than messages of condolence. They need real assistance,” he said.»

Abbo maintained that “sorry is not enough,” insisting that the people of Adamawa deserve a government willing to deploy every legitimate and effective measure necessary to prevent the recurrence of such attacks.

He further pledged that, if elected governor of Adamawa State in 2027, security would be among the top priorities of his administration.

According to him, his administration would pursue an integrated security framework combining intelligence gathering, technology, permanent security presence, rapid response mechanisms, community participation and closer cooperation among security agencies.

He said his administration would set a nine-month target for delivering meaningful improvements in the security situation of vulnerable communities, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that “no community in Adamawa is left at the mercy of terrorists.”
