Urgent Call to Address Security Challenges in Katsina State
I write this with a deep sense of concern for the safety and well-being of the people of Katsina State, particularly those living in the areas most affected by the ongoing banditry crisis. It is imperative that both the government and the people take urgent and coordinated action to address this growing threat.
We have observed that during the farming season, bandits temporarily suspend their attacks, even encouraging farmers to cultivate their land without fear. This deceptive behavior creates a false sense of security, but make no mistake: these individuals remain a grave threat. Now that the harvest is over, the danger is even greater.
Having seen the fruits of your labor, these bandits are aware that farmers have money and goods. They may exploit this opportunity to kidnap, intimidate, or rob innocent people, demanding ransom or taking away hard-earned resources. Trusting them is not only risky but potentially fatal.
My Appeal to the People:
- Remain vigilant and security-conscious at all times.
- Avoid unnecessary movements, especially in isolated areas or at odd hours.
- Report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agencies immediately.
To Our Security Forces:
I urge all security personnel to increase their presence and vigilance, particularly on roads and in vulnerable communities. Travelers, especially during this period, are at heightened risk of kidnappings and attacks. Proactive measures can save lives and deter these criminals.
To His Excellency, Governor Umaru Radda:
Your leadership is crucial at this critical time.
I appeal to you to intensify efforts by equipping and empowering security agencies to combat this menace effectively. Mobilize resources, strengthen intelligence networks, and ensure that the lives of Katsina citizens are protected at all costs.
This is not just a call for action—it is a plea for survival. The people of Katsina deserve to live without fear, and it is our collective responsibility to make that possible. Let us act decisively and urgently to secure our communities and reclaim peace.
Thank you.
Hon Suleiman Abdulkadir Yarlilo
