In the light of recent developments in Darfur, Chairman Rana Basharat Ali Khan, representing the International Human Rights Movement, issues a statement to draw attention to the escalating humanitarian crises and human rights abuses in the region.** **The situation in Darfur is extremely alarming, with nearly nine million people in need of humanitarian assistance. Reports indicate that approximately 4,000 individuals have been targeted and killed based on their ethnic foundations, reminiscent of a distressing chapter two decades ago when the region faced violent conflict and widespread atrocities.** **Historical Context: Darfur, meaning "Land of the Fur" in Arabic, is home to approximately 80 tribes and ethnic groups. The United Nations-African Union Hybrid Operation (UNAMID) concluded its mission in the region in December 2020. The subsequent United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) aimed to assist during Sudan's political transition but concluded its mandate in December 2023.** **Ongoing Challenges: The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has received authenticated information on at least 13 mass graves in El Geneina, reflecting possible evidence of war crimes. The situation in Darfur is dire, with children dying in hospitals, severe food shortages affecting children and mothers, and camps for displaced people being set ablaze.** **Call to Action: Chairman Rana Basharat Ali Khan urges the international community to focus on resolving the escalating crisis in Darfur. Immediate assistance is needed to deliver aid, protect civilians in cities, and prevent further loss of life.
