This plant is known as serghinat in Morocco or sarghine in English. It's locally known as hawi in Hausa (botanical name: corrigiola thelephifolia).

Serghinat or hawi is a plant with gnarled roots from the Caryophyllaceae family. Universally, the perennial tap root is used as medicine (since it is fortifying, diuretic, tonic, antibacterial) and cosmetic (deodorant).

However in Morocco, Senegal, Chad & Nigeria it's used as bakhoor (incense), an additive in making khumra (liquid perfume) and as a key ingredients in some Moroccan aphrodisiacs.

When processed as turarenwuta, it produces intense, warming & woody fragrance that's rich and long lasting. Hawi/serghina is one of my favorite💞

It's also roasted & grinded to soft powder as a key ingredients in making traditional khumra (liquid perfume)
