The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, which signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government and congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan.
He urged Muslims to sustain the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice observed during the fasting period.

The minister also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for continued peace, unity and prosperity in the country, while encouraging citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged.

He made the statement shortly after paying a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the 19 Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, in the state capital, Gombe.

Ajaero explained that the protest is aimed at pressing the government to take firm action against insecurity, noting that the problem now affects all Nigerians, regardless of their status or occupation.

He added that banditry and violent crimes are foreign to Nigeria’s culture and must be jointly condemned to change what he described as a dangerous national trend.
