Watch Video: "We Can’t Keep Living in Fear" — Kwara North Protesters Intensify Demands.

Protesters from Kwara North have intensified their calls for urgent government intervention, insisting that insecurity in parts of Kwara State has reached an alarming level.

Demonstrators were seen chanting and carrying placards, demanding immediate and concrete action to end recurring attacks on their communities. They maintained that their demands are straightforward; protection of lives and property.

According to the protesters, frequent killings, kidnappings, and invasions by armed groups have forced many residents to abandon their homes, farmlands, and businesses. They lamented that families now live in constant anxiety, unsure of what the next day may bring.

"We cannot continue to live like this. The government must act now," one protester said.

They urged authorities to deploy more security personnel, strengthen intelligence gathering and ensure sustained patrols in vulnerable areas, particularly border communities.
The demonstrators warned that if swift measures are not taken, frustration among residents could deepen, as affected communities continue to seek visible and lasting security solutions.

"My Sister Is a Victim, Not a Criminal" - Family Cries Out After Gbugbu Attack.

An emotional moment unfolded at a protest in Ilorin today 26th February, 2026 as a lady narrated how her younger sister was shot three times during the recent bandit attack on Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

According to her, the victim sustained gunshot wounds to the rib and both shoulders during the invasion. The bullets were later surgically removed after she was rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) for emergency treatment.

"She survived, but with severe physical and emotional trauma. My sister is a victim of insecurity, not a criminal," the protester said tearfully. She lamented that the family bore the financial and emotional burden of treatment alone, describing the experience as devastating.

The protest, which drew residents and concerned citizens, focused on growing insecurity in parts of Kwara North, particularly border communities such as Gbugbu in Edu LGA.

Demonstrators called for urgent and decisive government intervention to protect lives and prevent further attacks.

Breaking: President Tinubu Seeks Constitutional Amendment for State Police.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR has urged the leadership of the 10th Senate to commence constitutional amendments that would provide a legal framework for the establishment of state police in Nigeria.

The President made the call on Wednesday 24th February, 2026 during an interfaith breakfast with senators at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

Tinubu said the creation of state police had become necessary in view of evolving security threats across the country, including terrorism, banditry, and insurgency. He stressed that decentralised policing would enhance grassroots security and enable state governments to respond swiftly to local challenges.

“We are facing terrorism, banditry and insurgency. But we will never fail to make the right response to these challenges,” the President said, urging lawmakers to begin discussions on constitutional provisions to accommodate state policing.

He explained that a decentralised policing structure would complement the existing federal security architecture and promote intelligence-driven, community-based law enforcement.

The President also commended the cordial relationship between the executive and the National Assembly, noting that unity among leaders is crucial to overcoming insecurity and driving national development.

Tinubu further appreciated the Senate’s support for key reforms under his administration, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy and tax reforms, which he described as bold but necessary steps toward economic stability.

In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio thanked the President for hosting the interfaith gathering and praised his leadership at what he described as a critical time for the country.

Akpabio noted that recent reforms had improved revenue allocations to states, enabling governors to undertake important infrastructure projects, and offered prayers for peace, unity and prosperity in Nigeria.

Just In: Ilorin Paradise Advocates Equity in Kwara Governorship Zoning.

A Nutritionist and a prominent Advocator of Good Governance from Kwara North, Hon. Adam Egba (Ilorin Paradise), has renewed calls for fairness and inclusion in the zoning of the governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections in Kwara State.

Ilorin Paradise made the advocacy in a post published on his page on February 16, 2026, where he described the state's current political situation as a defining democratic moment. In the statement titled "Messy Democracy: A Call for Equity and Justice in Kwara State," he argued that while the state grapples with security challenges and development demands, the question of equitable power-sharing remains fundamental to lasting unity.

According to him, democracy should not silence legitimate voices but should accommodate sincere dialogue and inclusive participation. He maintained that the demand by Kwara North is rooted in fairness, not privilege.

"Our demands are not excessive; they are principled. We are not asking for privilege; we are asking for fairness," he wrote, emphasizing that power-sharing in a plural society must reflect balance and inclusion.

Ilorin Paradise, an advocate of sustainable development noted that historically, Kwara North is long due to produce governor, unlike other senatorial districts in the State, and described the imbalance as inconsistent with democratic equity.

"Democracy must not operate selectively. If representation is the cornerstone of our system, then every region must have a fair and realistic opportunity to lead," he stated.

He also referenced national democratic commitments, citing remarks by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR on governance guided by truth, equity and justice, urging that such principles be upheld at the state level.

Ilorin Paradise concluded by calling on party delegates and political decision-makers to allow fairness to guide their judgment, stressing that the demand from Kwara North is a call for inclusion aimed at strengthening unity across the State.

The statement adds to ongoing political conversations and alignments ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Kwara State.
