Notably, he led efforts that culminated in Nigeria’s certification as wild polio-free by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2020, a monumental achievement that saved countless lives and elevated Nigeria’s global health standing. The WHO Country Representative to Nigeria, Dr. Walter Mulombo, commended Shuaib for his leadership during the wild polio and COVID-19 crises, noting that he left behind strong institutions for future leaders to build upon.
His expertise extends beyond polio eradication. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Shuaib spearheaded Nigeria’s vaccination campaigns, ensuring equitable distribution of vaccines and robust public health responses. His political associates highlight his strong grassroots connections, which have been further solidified through engagements like his Sallah homage to Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the former Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, in June 2024. These interactions underscore his commitment to building bridges with political leaders, opponents and stakeholders across the state.

His campaign posters, which have flooded the streets of Lafia, Keffi and other parts of Nasarawa State reflect growing public enthusiasm for his candidacy, even before a formal declaration. This organic support signals that Nasarawa residents see him as a leader who understands their aspirations and challenges.
3. Nasarawa State faces critical challenges, including infrastructure deficits, unemployment, and the need for improved healthcare and education systems. Dr. Shuaib’s background equips him to address these issues head-on. His experience in implementing climate-smart Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects at the national level aligns with Nasarawa’s ongoing efforts to boost its economy through such initiatives, as seen in the state’s recent training programs for PPP implementation. Furthermore, Dr. Shuaib’s academic credentials an MPH in International Health from Harvard University and a PhD in Infectious Disease Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health etc equip him with a global perspective on governance and development.
This intellectual rigor, combined with his practical experience, makes him uniquely suited to tackle Nasarawa’s challenges in a rapidly changing world.
