Who is Dr Zakka Ledkwi Yakubu
Dr Yakubu Zakka is an exceptional chattered accountant, from Nasarawa State, precisely Kokona Local Government Area of the State. He was born on 18th of September 1967 in Songo Barau village to a noble family of Pa Zakka Ledkwi. Between 1975 and 1981, Yakubu attended Arusu Primary School, where he obtained his primary school leaving certificate. He later attended Government Secondary School Panda in Nasarawa State from 1982 to 1986. In 1990, he passed the External West African Examination.
Because of his continuous passion to learn, he was enrolled into the School of Preliminary Studies Keffi in 1991. This inspired him to secure admission in prestigious Ahmadu Bello University in 1992, where he graduated with honors with a B.Sc. in Accounting in 1996. After completing a computer certificate program at Broad Computer Institute Lagos in 1998, he went on to earn a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 2003.
Mr Yakubu has never shied away from education particularly in his area of specialization. Despite his commitment to his civil service career, he dedicated a significant amount of time and energy on education. This prompted him to leave his home country, his comfort zone and travel to the far-off United States of America, where he earned M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Accounting at Atlantic International University in 2017 and 2020, respectively.
The prolific Yakubu demonstrated his perseverance to stay at the pinnacle of his accounting profession overtime, not content to confine his understanding accounting to a theoretical analysis. He is a fellow of Association of National Chattered Accountant of Nigeria (ANAN). Moreover, he had over the years demonstrated his involvement and dedication to the majority of accounting organizations and fellowships inside and outside Nigeria that include and not limited to Institute of Fraud Examiners, Institute of Management Consultants, Institute of Corporate Management Accountants & Managers in West Africa, Institute of Management (Chartered), Institute of Certified Accountants of Nigeria and Association of Certified Chartered Accountants of UK.
As a prerequisite to every Nigerian young graduate, Yakubu completed his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in 1997 at Central Bank of Nigeria. He excellently executed his service with great vigor and devotion. No wonder, his appointment at Nasarawa State Civil Service came up, immediately, following his service year, thus 1998, he started off in the civil service with Nasarawa State Public Accounts as an accountant and administrative secretary. Once more, his accounting expertise allowed him to advance through ranks and position with the State, eventually landing him the position of Director of Finance and Account at Nasarawa State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in 2012. In 2016, His Excellency, Governor Umar Tanko, Al-Makura appointed Mr Zakka Ledkwi Yakubu as the Accountant General of Nasarawa State, a position he held with ethical principles of accounting practice, and at the end of his tenure, he was elevated to the position of Permanent Secretary in charge of Nasarawa State Abuja Liaison office, which he still holds till today.
