REPORT ON THE PEACE, RECONCILIATION AND PROGRESS MEETING OF OGBEKE/UKURUTA AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY

In the collective interest of peace, unity, reconciliation and sustainable development of Ogbeke/Ukuruta Autonomous Community, the Excellent Men of Ogbeke/Ukuruta Union convened an important peace and reconciliation meeting aimed at addressing some of the challenges affecting the unity and progress of the community.
The meeting brought together a broad representation of the community, including community youths, elders, the Igwe, the Town Union President, Onowu and other respected community leaders.
The gathering provided an opportunity for members to openly reflect on the need for peace, mutual understanding and collective responsibility in moving Ogbeke/Ukuruta forward.
The Excellent Men were represented at the meeting by Onyeka Ogbodo and Joseph Aniaga.
In a presentation on behalf of the Excellent Men, Joseph Aniaga read out their suggestions and recommendations for achieving lasting peace, reconciliation and progress in the community.
Among other important issues, the Excellent Men made the following appeals:
*1. Spirit of Forgiveness and Unity*
The Excellent Men appealed to all sons and daughters of Ogbeke/Ukuruta to embrace the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation. They emphasized that the community is greater than any individual and that personal differences should not be allowed to undermine the collective interest of the people.
*2. Community Cemetery Land Dispute*
They appealed to all individuals currently laying claims to the community cemetery land, which is presently a subject of dispute, to hands off the land in the overall interest of the community, while encouraging the peaceful resolution of the matter through appropriate community and lawful channels.
*3. Release and Support for Community Security Personnel*
The meeting also called on all stakeholders to join hands in efforts aimed at securing the release of some community security personnel currently in prison over allegations relating to the management of the community's security situation.
*4. Mutual Respect Between Youths and Community Leadership*
The Excellent Men appealed to the youths and community leadership to respect one another and work together in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.
They emphasized that meaningful development can only take place where there is cooperation between the traditional institution, Town Union leadership, elders, youths and other stakeholders.
*5. Meaningful Engagement of the Youths*
The need to engage the youths in meaningful and productive activities was strongly emphasized.
The Excellent Men noted that the energy, creativity and talents of the younger generation should be channelled towards initiatives that will promote the development and prosperity of Ogbeke/Ukuruta.
*6. Restoration of Electricity*
The meeting further highlighted the urgent need to restore electricity to the community following the theft of the community transformer.
The Excellent Men called on all members of the community to support the leadership in its efforts to replace the stolen transformer and restore electricity, noting that reliable power supply is important to the economic and social wellbeing of the people.
The meeting provided a valuable platform for dialogue and reflection on the future of Ogbeke/Ukuruta Autonomous Community. Participants generally acknowledged the importance of reconciliation, forgiveness, mutual respect and collective responsibility.
There was widespread agreement that the Excellent Men of Ogbeke/Ukuruta Union took a commendable and timely step by convening the peace and reconciliation initiative.
The gathering also reinforced the understanding that the progress of Ogbeke/Ukuruta cannot be achieved through division or prolonged disagreements, but through dialogue, forgiveness, respect for constituted community leadership and a shared commitment to the common good.
As the Public Relations Officer of the Ogbeke/Ukuruta Autonomous Community Town Union Executive Committee, i consider the initiative a significant contribution towards rebuilding trust, strengthening unity and promoting peaceful coexistence within our community.
The message from the meeting is clear: Ogbeke/Ukuruta belongs to all of us, and its peace and progress must remain a collective responsibility.
It is therefore hoped that the spirit demonstrated at this gathering will continue beyond the meeting, with all stakeholders putting aside differences, embracing reconciliation and working together to build a peaceful, united and prosperous Ogbeke/Ukuruta Autonomous Community.
Long live Ogbeke/Ukuruta Autonomous Community.
Long live the traditional institution.
Long live the Town Union.
Long live the youths, elders and all sons and daughters of Ogbeke/Ukuruta.
May peace, unity and progress continue to prevail in our community.
