HOW BARAU EMERGED AS AN ENEMY OF KANO’S PROGRESS
By Abubakar Badee Bachirawa
In recent months, Senator Barau Jibrin has drawn growing criticism in Kano State. Many citizens and observers believe his actions have fueled political tension, weakened institutions, and slowed development, leading to the perception that he is hindering the state’s progress.
1.PERCEIVED INTERFERENCE IN LEADERSHIP
Barau is accused of interfering with political structures instead of cooperating with elected leaders. Though his supporters describe his actions as political strategy, critics say his involvement undermines institutions and has damaged his public image.
2.CONTROVERSY OVER KEY APPOINTMENT
Critics allege Barau blocked the appointments of Gawuna and Gari, and influenced the replacement of TM Gwarzo with Ata. He is also accused of trying to remove Engr. Abdullahi Ramat as NERC Chairman. These claims, though unproven, have intensified public frustration and strengthened concerns about his motives.
3.THREAT TO INSTITUTIONS
Opponents argue that Barau’s actions prioritize politics over stable governance, disrupting institutions responsible for effective public service and regulatory management.
4.DECLINING PUBLIC TRUST
As accusations increase, many citizens believe Barau’s actions oppose democratic values and the state’s development interests. This has led to growing mistrust and negative public perception.
5.DIVISIVE POLITICS
Barau’s approach is seen as widening political divisions rather than fostering unity. Critics say this hinders progress in vital sectors such as infrastructure, education, and commerce.
