Now that Buhari is dead, Stop insulting Buhari- Shehu Sanni begs Nigerians

Former lawmaker Shehu Sani has called on Nigerians to refrain from speaking ill of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in a London clinic on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

Buhari’s death has sparked mixed reactions across the country. While many leaders have paid tribute to the former president, some citizens and activists have criticised his legacy.

Activist Omoyele Sowore described Buhari’s tenure as leaving “deep scars on Nigeria’s democratic fabric,” citing “repression, economic hardship, insecurity, and religious bigotry.” Others on social media expressed dismay that a former president died abroad, pointing to Nigeria’s inadequate healthcare facilities.

In response, Sani took to his page to caution against disparaging the deceased. “We are all mortals awaiting an uncertain fate at an uncertain time and in uncertain places,” he wrote. “A living man is still on trial and cannot judge the dead. Let the sleeping soul rest.”

GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU URGES LAGOSIANS TO PARTICIPATE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

My dear Lagosians,

The local government elections will take place today (July 12, 2025). I call on all eligible voters across the state to come out in large numbers to participate in the exercise.

The local government is the closest tier of government to the people and plays a vital role in delivering essential services and fostering grassroots development.

The election offers Lagosians an opportunity to shape the leadership of their local councils by voting for Chairmen and councillors who will represent their interests and drive development at the community level.

This election is not just a constitutional process; it is a powerful expression of your voice and your civic responsibility; it is your right. I urge every registered voter to go out peacefully tomorrow, cast your vote, and be a part of the democratic process that strengthens our communities and our state.

To ensure a safe, orderly, and credible election, I have directed that security agencies be strategically deployed across all polling units and communities. Law enforcement officials will be present to protect voters, electoral officials, and election materials.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has assured me that they are ready for the election.

I urge all political stakeholders, party agents, and candidates to conduct themselves with decorum and to uphold the principles of peace, fairness, and respect for the rule of law throughout the election.

Oshodi/Isolo residents declare for Kendoo’s Second Term

Oshodi/Isolo came alive on Tuesday with a powerful display of political unity and grassroots solidarity as thousands thronged the streets in a grand rally to endorse Kehinde Almoroof Oloyede, popularly known as Kendoo, for a second term as chairman of the local government. The mega rally, which drew together political stalwarts, youth groups, market leaders, artisans, and community elders, marked the high point of support ahead of the July 12 chairmanship election.
