A Magistrate Court sitting in Nsukka, Enugu State, on Thursday remanded three Oriokpa masquerades in prison custody for allegedly assaulting a young man along Aku Road Market in Nsukka.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, reportedly saw the masquerades flouting a prior directive restricting their activities. They were said to have inflicted serious injuries on an unsuspecting victim during their outing.
The trio, widely referred to as โ€œspiritsโ€ due to the traditional and cultural reverence associated with the Oriokpa masquerade, were apprehended by a Joint Task Force (JTF) comprising operatives of the Nkpunanano Task Force and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
Sources said the masquerades were initially to be remanded in prison while fully dressed in their traditional costumes. However, in a dramatic turn, the presiding magistrate tempered justice with mercy, allowing them to change out of the masquerade regalia before being taken into custody.
The court adjourned the case till October 7, 2025, for further hearing, while the accused remain in custody at the Nsukka Correctional Centre.

WIKE AND HIS BAGGAGE OF LAND GRABBING.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered an investigation into alleged corruption by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, following reports he allocated over 2,000 hectares of prime Abuja land worth an estimated $3.6 billion to a company linked to his son.

According to reports, the land, awarded under the guise of agricultural use, was granted to Joaq Farms and Estates Ltd, a firm reportedly owned by Wikeโ€™s son, Joaquin.
The probe will be overseen by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, though itโ€™s unclear if anti-graft agencies like the EFCC or ICPC will participate.

โ€œThe president agreed the ministerโ€™s actions warranted scrutiny,โ€ a senior official toldThe Gazette. โ€œCitizens are encouraged to report suspected abuses to promote transparency.โ€

Wike has defended the allocations as legal and agriculture-focused, but did not disclose the companyโ€™s ownership a potential violation of constitutional rules barring personal enrichment through public office.

Anti-corruption groups are demanding a transparent, independent investigation. โ€œAnything short of a forensic audit and review of CAC records risks repeating past failures,โ€ said activist Lanre Suraju.

The presidency has not publicly confirmed the probe, reportedly to avoid escalating tensions with Wike, a political heavyweight credited with key infrastructure projects in the FCT.

Wikeโ€™s spokesman declined comment on whether the minister will cooperate with investigators.

HE WAS NOT RENDITIONED BUT ILLEGALLY ABDUCTED, KENYA COURT DECLARED, AWARDS 10 MILLION KENYA SHILLING DAMAGE

A High Court in Nairobi, Kenya, has declared the 2021 abduction and forced rendition of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as illegal and unconstitutional.

In a landmark judgment delivered by Justice E.C. Mwita on Friday, the court ruled that the actions of both the Kenyan and Nigerian governments violated Kanuโ€™s fundamental human rights, as enshrined in their respective national constitutions.

Justice Mwita condemned the arrest, detention, and subsequent transfer of Kanu to Nigeria without due legal process, describing it as a gross breach of international and domestic human rights standards.

As part of the ruling, the court ordered the Kenyan government to pay Kanu 10 million Kenyan shillings (approximately โ‚ฆ120 million) in compensatory damages for its role in the illegal operation.

The decision marks a significant legal victory for Kanu, whose arrest and rendition from Kenya to Nigeria in June 2021 sparked international criticism and human rights concerns.

Justice E.C. Mwita said, โ€œHaving considered the pleadings and arguments by parties, the decisions relied on, the Constitution and the law, I come to the following conclusions:

โ€œFirst, the government of Kenya violated the Constitution and Mr. Nnamdi Kanuโ€™s rights and fundamental freedoms. Having entered Kenya lawfully he was subject to the protection offered by the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the government of Kenya had an obligation to uphold and protect his rights and fundamental freedoms.
โ€œMr. Nnamdi was, however, abducted, kept in solitude confinement, tortured and denied food and medication, a breach of basic rights. He was chained, humiliated, ridiculed and held in contempt and later forcibly removed from Kenya without following the law in violation of his rights and fundamental freedoms for which the government of Kenya is liable.

โ€œBased on the above conclusions, the court makes the following declarations and orders it considers appropriate: A declaration is hereby issued that the abduction of Mr. Nwannekaenvi Nnamdi Kenny Okwu Kanu ; holding him in incommunicado confinement, torturing him and denying him food, water, medication and other basic necessities was a violation of his rights and fundamental freedoms.

โ€œA declaration is hereby issued that the abduction and subsequent forcible removal of Mr. Nwannekaenvi Nnamdi Kenny Okwu-Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria was in violation of the laws of Kenya; his rights and fundamental freedoms, including freedom of movement and security of the person guaranteed by the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and, therefore, unconstitutional and illegal.
โ€œAn order for compensation is hereby issued awarding Mr. Nwannekaenvi Nnamdi Kenny Okwu-Kanu general damages of Kshs 10,000,000 (N119,546,576.79) against the Attorney General of Kenya on behalf of the government of Kenya for the violation of Mr. Nwannekaenvi Nnamdi Kenny Okwu-Kanuโ€™s constitutional rights and fundamental freedoms.โ€

ODERA NWOBU SURVIVED GHASTLY CAR ACCIDENT

Tragedy struck on the Lagos Expressway in the early hours of Thursday, June 26, 2025, as a fatal road accident claimed the lives of multiple passengersโ€”leaving popular Nollywood actor, Odira Nwobu, as the only known survivor.

According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the accident involved a private vehicle which veered off the road and somersaulted multiple times before crashing into a barrier. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by emergency authorities and road safety officers, but early reports suggest overspeeding or mechanical failure may have played a role.

The identities and number of the deceased are yet to be officially confirmed as of press time. However, it was confirmed that Odira Nwobu, well-known for his comic roles in Nollywood movies, miraculously survived the accident and is currently receiving urgent medical care in a Lagos hospital. His condition, although serious, is said to be stable.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene to evacuate the injured and retrieve the bodies of the deceased. The accident caused a major traffic gridlock on the busy expressway, with motorists forced to take alternative routes.

The news has sparked a wave of emotion across Nigeriaโ€™s entertainment industry. Fans, friends, and fellow actors took to social media platforms to express shock over the tragic incident. Many thanked God for sparing Odiraโ€™s life while offering prayers for the souls of the departed.

These are the truths they all conspired to suppress, to hide, to violently bury beneath thick layers of lies, deception, and ruthless power plays, and they are finally finding their way out. The truth is like smoke โ€” no matter how tightly you seal it in, it always finds a way to seep through the cracks.
Now, the same disillusioned and disgruntled politicians who once knelt at the altar of Tinubuโ€™s administration โ€” hoping to drink greedily from the overflowing chalice of corruption โ€” have become the very hands pulling back the veil of deceit. Their greedy hopes of partaking in the obscene o**y of recklessly looting our commonwealth have now been dashed against the wall of reality. The feast they anticipated never came.
Frustrated and sidelined, theyโ€™ve broken away, forming bitter factions, plotting betrayals, and stabbing old allies in the back. The promise of free money and unchecked power didnโ€™t reach them as expected. And now, angry and exposed, some of them have started speaking out โ€” some in whispers, some with boldness โ€” leaking the very truths they once helped to cover, the secrets they once swore to bury forever. And thatโ€™s how this result came to light โ€” a result they never wanted you and me to see. But here it is, rising through the smoke they can no longer control, because no matter how long it takes, truth always finds its voice.
Believe this result. I believe in its authenticity not just because it feels right, but because it aligns with what the people felt, what the nation saw and experienced, the atmosphere, the mood, the street sentiment, the information flow, and what every observer witnessed in the 2023 election. The energy of the electorate, the rhythm of public discourse, the hope in the air and the pulse of political awareness all pointed to this single, undeniable possibility. More buried truths will be unearthed.
