Gen. Musa Confirmed as Defence Minister, Pushes for National Database to Fight Crimè.
Retired General Christopher Musa has officially been confirmed as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence after undergoing a five-hour Senate screening on Wednesday. During the session, he strongly advocated for the establishment of a national database and a system to track ransom payments as part of efforts to combat criminal activities.
Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, emphasized that Nigeria must adopt basic security measures used in developed nations. He highlighted the importance of a centralized citizen database, stating that such a system would support law enforcement and help identify offenders who currently exploit the lack of coordinated records to evade capture.
He recommended using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to trace financial transactions linked to crimes, monitor ransom payments, and connect citizens' electronic footprints within a unified system. Musa noted that disrupting the financial flow to kidnàppers is essential in reducing their activities.
