ion for research, creativity and journalism lies in the foundation laid by Professor Wole Soyinka, the first black African writer to win the Noble Prize for Literature in 1986. It is not possible to doubt that Professor Wole Soyinka made meaningful and invaluable contributions in redefining and reshaping the literature in Africa while preserving the beauty that is embedded in cultures, values and histories of Africa in the precolonial times.

Sculpture artist Nnena Kalu made history this week when she won the coveted Turner Prize, the UK’s most high-profile art award.

Kali, who was born in Glasgow to Nigerian parents, is the first artist with a learning disability to win the prize.

She won the award for her "bold and compelling" sculptures - which are haphazardly wrapped in layers of ribbon, string, card and shiny VHS tape - and her drawings of swirling, tornado-like shapes.

Nnamdi Kanu rained curses on Justice Omotosho while exiting the courtroom, vehemently protesting what he called an unfair prosecution. He argued that his terrorism charges are based on a law that has been repealed. He has repeatedly protested the ill-treatment he endured at the hands of the DSS, as well as the circumstances surrounding his arrest in Kenya.
