POPE LEO XIV INVITES PRESIDENT TINUBU TO HIS INAUGURATION ON SUNDAY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja for Rome, the capital of Italy, on Saturday at the invitation of Pope Leo XIV.

Accompanied by top Catholic leaders, President Tinubu will attend a solemn mass marking the beginning of the Pontificate of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, the 267th Bishop of Rome and the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

In the Papal invitation sent by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Pope Leo XIV underscored the need for President Tinubu's physical presence "at this moment of particular importance for the Catholic Church and the world afflicted by many tensions and conflicts".

Pope Leo further stressed: "Your great nation is particularly dear to me as I worked in the Apostolic Nunciature in Lagos during the 1980s."

President Tinubu's entourage includes the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Archbishop of Owerri and President of Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria, Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Abuja, and Alfred Martins of Lagos.

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah, is also in the president's entourage.

Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, will be formally installed to the exalted office on Sunday, May 18, at St. Peter's Square in the Vatican.

The Conclave of Cardinals elected him 27 days after his predecessor, Pope Francis, died on April 21.

President Tinubu will return to Abuja on Tuesday, May 20.

State of Emergency Declared on Rivers State

President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu have declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State, effect from today 18th March to the next 6months.

He is said to evoke section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution to declare this State of Emergency which suspends the Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and the entire House of Assembly and the deputy governor.

He therefore, nominated Real Admiral Ibok Eket (Rtd) as Rivers State administrator for the six months. This he said is because of the threats of parties on ground to blow pipelines.

The new judge quits from Nnamdi Kanu’s case, saying his arrest was wrong.

Justice John Tsoho, the new judge assigned to Nnamdi Kanu’s case, has quit. He said Kanu was brought back to NIGERIA from KENYA illegally, and because of that, he can’t judge the case without going against his own beliefs.

The judge pointed out that other judges before him had ordered Kanu’s release, but the g0vernment ignor£d them. "If they didn’t listen to those orders, why would they listen to mine?" he asked.

He added that Nigeria must follow its own laws and that keeping Kanu locked up without a good reason is wrong—not just for Nigeria, but for the whole world.

"I won’t ruin my name by touching this case," Justice Tsoho said. "It’s clear what’s right, and I won’t let this mess up my reputation. People always remember justice."

Humanity has a long memory when it comes to justice, and I will not risk staining mine with a matter so transparently flawed."
