When the Dust Settles...

The election came and went.
The loud campaign songs became silent.
The posters began to peel off the walls.

The politicians who once exchanged harsh words were seen smiling, shaking hands, and moving on with life....

But in one small house, a woman still sits on the floor every evening, staring at the door that would never open again.
Her husband had gone out to defend a politician and he never returned.

Their little daughter kept asking, Mummy, when is Daddy coming home?
The answer was always the same...... tears.

Months later, the politician had a new office, a convoy, security escorts, and another campaign to prepare for.

The widow still struggles to pay school fees, the children still sleeps hungry some nights.
The grave remains where it is .

That is the tragedy of political violence and the worse is, the people who fight rarely enjoy the reward. And the families who cry are often not the families of those in power.... The sad reality.

Many of those asking you to fight have made sure their own children are safe..... some are in schools abroad, others are far from the streets where violence happens..Yet they expect you to risk everything.

Please, don't.
No political office is worth your blood.
No election is worth becoming an orphan.
No party is worth making your mother a widow or your father bury a child.

Your neighbour in another political party is not your enemy while your friend with a different opinion is still your friend.

When this election is over, you will still buy from one another, greet one another, worship together, celebrate together, and mourn together when life happens.

Do not let politics destroy what humanity has built.

Remember.....
Elections are temporary but the consequences of violence can be permanent and also, politician may replace an office, but your family can never replace you... ☹️

The ink on your voter's thumb should be the only stain from an election and not blood on the streets ajeh!

As Osun goes to the polls on the 15th, let us make history and not with violence, but with maturity.

Vote with your conscience.
Respect those who choose differently and protect one another.

And to whoever the people chose as the winner, congratulations in advance. May victory bring responsibility, humility, and service to every citizen, regardless of political affiliation.

Remember, one day, our children will ask what kind of people we were during this election.

May we proudly say, we chose peace over provocation. We chose unity over hatred. We chose life over violence.... Because after every election, when the crowds disappear, the songs fade, and the celebrations end, life goes on.

sure you are alive to live it.
