‘‘The return of TK, the storyteller - with ‘Cordelia’

He is, arguably, Nigeria’s most accomplished and most renowned film maker and cinematographer. Although he describes himself simply as a storyteller, he is much more than that - a teacher, photographer, social activist and cultural ambassador.

I have known him closely for half a Century. From my observatory in Wasimi, I have watched him these past 4 years navigating minefields of challenges that threatened one of his most ambitious and challenging productions, a movie that captures a defining moment in Nigeria’s story under military rule titled ‘Cordelia’, written by Prof. Femi Osofisan, with a soundtrack that was performed specially by the philharmonic orchestra of an American University.

This most ambitious project has flip flopped for 3 years. On July 18, 2025, it will finally berth in Cinemas all over Nigeria, starting with a first Special Screening at the Alliance Francais in Lagos on July 15, and a second one, by invitation only, on July 16, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, former President of Nigeria, as Special Guest of Honour.

Dr. Tunde Kelani, aka Uncle TK, or simply TK as he prefers to be called, is my guest on ‘90 minutes with Mathematical’ this Saturday morning. He will be sharing his incredible journey and experiences with the world.

Everyone interested in the art of filmmaking cannot afford to miss this swashbuckling, blockbusting conversation on Saturday morning, from 7:30am on Eagle7 Sports Radio 103.7 FM and via our website https://eagle7fm.com/.

Just click on this site anytime of the day or night and get connected to Eagle7 Sports Radio.

Don’t miss this experience!

Reni Folawiyo’s 60th birthday celebration was nothing short of cinematic—like stepping onto a grand Hollywood epic set. It felt like we were all part of a beautifully scripted film, surrounded by hundreds of stunning guests dressed in both regal period and contemporary styles. One of the night’s highlights for me was reuniting with my dear friend and brother, the legendary King of Juju music—King Sunny Ade, KSA—who masterfully set the rhythm of the night, serenading us into the countdown that ushered Reni into her remarkable 60-year journey on earth.

RIPPLES FROM LAST WEEK
PART 2
EBROHIMIE ROAD GOES TO ABUJA
It was a real pleasure to accompany Ebrohimie Road: A Museum of Memory — the brilliant and haunting documentary by scholar, writer, and filmmaker Kola Tubosun — to the Mandela Institute in Abuja.
The film tells the powerful story of the house where Wole Soyinka once lived as a lecturer at the University of Ibadan, and where he was later arrested during Nigeria’s civil war. A house turned into a living museum of memory, history, and resistance.
The screening was graced by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, principal staff of the Mandela Institue led by the Director, Policy and Operations, Egghead Odewale and an unexpected but inspiring audience of mostly young people — thoughtful, curious, deeply engaged.
The post-screening conversation, moderated by the new President of the Mandela Institute, Prof. Adebayo Olukoshi, was vibrant, layered, and full of important questions about our national memory and where we go from here.
This was more than a film screening — it was a gathering of minds and spirits. Grateful to have been part of it.

RIPPLES FROM LAST WEEK PART 1

RENI’S DOCUMETARY - A LAST DANCE
Not over yet… we wrapped Reni’s documentary with a burst of rhythm, colour, and culture!
We closed the shoot at Digitrack Studios, Lagos, with a dazzling dance drama staged by the ever-electric Segun Adefila’s Crown Troupe of Africa. It was more than a performance — it was a festival of heritage, movement, and meaning.
Grateful to this incredible team for helping us bring the spirit of the story to life — one final bow, one lasting memory.

LIFETIME HONOUR THROUGH THE LENS

Two days ago, I was deeply honoured to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for Impact Through Visual Storytelling at the 10th edition of NiPHEC – the Nigerian Photography Expo & Conference.
From capturing still images of everyday life in Abeokuta to documenting the pulse of Yoruba culture through cinema, this journey has always been about more than just the camera. It’s about using the lens — still or moving — to tell stories with soul, to preserve who we are, and to give voice to those often unheard.
I dedicate this award to the people, the culture, and all my collaborators over the decades. You’ve made this journey worthwhile.
May we all continue to use our art not just to reflect beauty, but to provoke thought, honour heritage, and speak truth to power.
Ẹ ṣeun gan.
