American Singer, Selena Gomez has silenced speculations that she has broken up with her boyfriend, producer Benny Blanco.
Rumours had surfaced on social media that the singer and producer’s relationship ended.

The rumours came after a supposed friend of Selena shared a post on social media while at Sabrina Carpenter’s MSG concert, suggesting that she is married while all her friends are “single.”

Following the speculations, Selena Gomez posted her ‘Juno’ dance video from Sabrina Carpenter’s concert at Madison Square Garden on Instagram. She tagged her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, silencing the rumour mongers.

A suspected gas explosion has occurred at the residence of a Nigerian journalist, Abdulkareem Haruna, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood.

This was made known on Monday by Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad Basin counterterrorism and insurgency expert, in a post on his X handle.

Makama said that the explosion, believed to have been caused by a faulty gas cylinder, tore through the kitchen as family members were preparing for the naming ceremony of a new born child.

According to the report, two individuals present at the scene sustained serious injuries, while a newborn baby was caught in the blast and slipped into a coma due to the trauma.

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has vowed to mobilise and join forces with Nigerians against the practices of unitarianism in the nation’s politics.

The group made this vow in a communique issued by its Deputy Leader and National Publicity Secretary, Oba Oladipo Olaitan and Justice Faloye respectively.

It issued the communique after its monthly meeting held at Isanya Ogbo Ogun State, the residence of its Leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

Afenifere argued that the introduction of a bill to establish a National Independent Local Government Electoral Commission, NILGEC, for the conduct of Local Government elections is a monumental multiplication of INEC’s inefficiencies at 774 degrees.

It lamented all forms of political rascality aimed at stifling democracy by the two tiers of the Nigerian government structure, condemning political gerrymandering pushing Nigeria into a unitary state.

“The idea of a federal agency to conduct local government elections is a veritable weapon in furtherance of the undisguised policy of complete capture and absolute unitarianism of the Nigerian Federation by the Central Government, a policy that has attained its crescendo under the present administration.

“The Federal Government and its INEC have proven not better at conducting the limited elections with which they are saddled by the Constitution,” it said.

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command has debunked rumours of an alleged plan by terrorists to attack and abduct students from the University of Abuja campus.

There has been tension on the campus following the rumour circulating on online platforms.

Reacting, the FCT Command in a statement by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, described the reports as “nothing but baseless publications propagated by rumour mongers aiming to create unfounded panic and apprehension among FCT residents and university community.

“The Command hereby reiterates its commitment to securing and safeguarding the lives and property of residents in the FCT as adequate deployment of personnel and equipment have been implemented to enhance the security situation within the FCT, which includes the University of Abuja, ” the police spokesperson said.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said he would be alive to attend the 90th birthday celebration of Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church.

When Bishop Oyedepo would be 90 years old, Obasanjo would clock 107 years.

Obasanjo spoke during the 70th birthday celebration of Oyedepo at the Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Ogun State, on Friday.

Addressing Living Faith members, Obasanjo said: “Today you are joining the club of Septuagenarians; from Septuagenarian, you will become Octogenarian, and I will be here. From Octogenarian, you will become Nonagenarian, and I will be here.

“After that, I will leave you alone, and God will be with you.”

Reflecting on his own connection to Ota and Oyedepo’s contribution to the area, Obasanjo recounted his experience with farming in Ota, which began in 1979.

When Bishop Oyedepo would be 90 years old, Obasanjo would clock 107 years.

Isaiah Okere, a 42-year-old Nigerian man, has pleaded guilty to charges of internet fraud that defrauded over 15 Americans and organizations out of more than $1 million.

Okere appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Liman in New York on Tuesday, admitting his role in a conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, revealed that Okere collaborated with members of the transnational criminal group, Black Axe, to carry out a series of romance scams, lottery frauds, and business email compromise schemes targeting vulnerable individuals.

The frauds primarily affected elderly and isolated victims, some of whom lost their entire life savings.

Okere was arrested in South Africa in December 2021 and extradited to the U.S. on August 23, 2024. He now faces a potential five-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to “one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.”

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams stated, “Isaiah Okere and his co-conspirators preyed on elderly and vulnerable victims, some of whom lost their entire life savings. This office’s global reach ensures that he will be held accountable in the United States for his crimes.”

Francis Njoku, an Indrive cab driver who was accused of stealing package, has threatened to sue actress Adunni Ade.

The disagreement between the duo stemmed from the driver’s alleged refusal to deliver the actress package after ending the trip.

Calling out the ride-hailing service in an Instagram post on Wednesday, Adunni claimed the driver took off with her package and refused to pick up calls.

“.ng I have contacted you for hours but no response. One of your drivers has stolen my package. He ended the trip before getting to me and not picking up calls.”

Her post triggered condemnation with many users calling out the company.

In a follow up post, Adunni noted that Njoku delivered her package after the company locked his profile.

She also shared the screenshots of her conversations with Njoku and her fashion designer, who sent the package out.

In the screenshots shared by the actress, Njoku had tackled her for allegedly smearing his name and threatened to take the matter to court.

“You have made nonsense of my image and I have contacted my legal team and we will see you in court. You are not the person that requested the ride. Many human rights lawyers and activists have called me and I won’t let it go that way. You must render an unreserved apology and ask Instablog to pull the post down.”

Reacting to the threat, Adunni Ade said “One thing about me is I don’t lie nor cheat my fellow beings. When we speak of change, let it start with you. Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered the massive deployment of personnel and operational resources for peaceful council polls on September 21.

Uzuegbu also ordered restriction of human and vehicular movements in the state between 12:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on September 21, except for those providing essential services.

Also excluded from the order are media practitioners, election officials and accredited election observers.

This is contained in a statement by the command’s DSP Daniel Ndukwe on Thursday in Enugu, quoting the commissioner as saying the restriction order also applied to armed security personnel on VIP protection duties.

The CP said that on no account should any security personnel es**rt VIPs to the polling centres

According to him, the election’s security management will be jointly executed by all the security agencies in the state.

“The Command is warning that electoral violence of any kind will not be tolerated before, during and beyond the polls.

“The Command is cautioning political parties and their stalwarts to conduct themselves orderly and in line with the election guidelines provided by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC).

“Unrepentant criminal elements that may want to foment trouble during the elections should steer clear, as the security forces are geared up to deal decisively with such criminals.

“Parents and guardians should dissuade their children and wards from being used as thugs to disrupt the elections, as anyone caught will be made to face the full weight of the law,” he said.

The Nigeria Police Force has revealed some potential benefits of the Electronic Central Motor Registry, E-CMR innovation.

The E-CMR innovation is expected to revolutionize how vehicle information is verified and tracked, especially when stolen.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, while highlighting some of the benefits of the E-CMR via his X handle on Thursday, said with the technology, there would be “No more stopping to check papers- our officers are equipped with cutting-edge tech to verify documents in real-time”.

According to Adejobi, when a vehicle registered with the NPF E-CMR gets stolen, “you can instantly flag it as stolen through your online profile” and it will be recovered.

The IGP said the move was to modernise and digitize the motor vehicle registration system, and improve the nation’s safety and security framework.

Rwanda has launched the first mpox vaccination campaign in Africa, marking a significant step in the continent’s fight against the disease.

As of Tuesday, the country administered 300 doses of the vaccine to high-risk individuals in a border region with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Jean Kaseya, Director-General of the Africa Centre for Disease Control (Africa CDC), confirmed the commencement of the campaign, stating the urgency of curbing the outbreak.

“This outbreak must be stopped very quickly,” Kaseya said.

He also pointed out the need for local vaccine production, stating, “We are working closely with our manufacturers and partners to ensure these vaccines are produced in Africa.”

Edo guber: Police’ll remain impartial, professional – IGP Egbetokun

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has said that the police will provide a level playing ground for all political parties participating in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.

Egbetokun made this promise on Thursday in Benin during the signing of a peace accord by political parties and their candidates ahead of the election.

The national peace committee led by Abubakar Abdulsalami, a former military head of state, initiated the peace accord.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate refused to sign the peace accord.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Monday Okpebholo, his Labour Party, LP, counterpart, Olumide Akpata and other political parties signed the peace accord.

According to the IGP, the police will be neutral and professional, stressing that all stakeholders must work together to achieve a conducive environment for the poll.

Harris made the remark while noting that she would be president to all Americans.

South East Devt Commission Bill initiated by Oduah, not Kalu – Civil rights group clarifies.

A civil rights group, the Civil Liberties Parliamentary Advocacy Centre, (CLPAC), has clarified that the recently signed South East Development Commission (SEDC) Bill, was initiated by Senator Stella Oduah and not the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

Giving a historical genesis of the SEDC, the organisation in a press statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Arc. Vincent Udemba in Abuja said that the SEDC was conceived in the 8th Senate by Senator Oduah (Anambra North) and merged with a similar bill sponsored by Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Imo East) when it was introduced on the floor of the Red Chamber on June 22, 2016.

He clarified that as at 2016 of the 8th Assembly when the bill was initiated, Hon. Kalu was not holding any political office not until June 2019 when he resumed as an elected member of the House of Representatives.

Making references to the archives of Order Paper Nigeria, the Senate’s Order Paper 2016 (SB. 303) and newspapers publications of June 17, 2017 Vincent pointed out that the bill was first read on the floor of the 8th Senate led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, and scaled the second reading on June 7, 2017.

“On December 12, 2018, the Senate passed the bill and one week to the expiration of the 8th Assembly the House of Representatives on May 28, 2019, passed the bill.

“At the level of the 8th House of Representatives the same bill was sponsored by former Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Chukwuma Onyema (Anambra, Ogbaru),” he stated.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakunlehin has declared that Ibira people who have been living in the ancient city are no more visitors but recognised residents of the ancient city.

Olakulehin made this declaration while receiving the Baale of Ibira Community in Ibadan, Chief Lamidi Aliu Balogun at his palace on Thursday.

The traditional ruler, who spoke through the Aremo, Prince Olasunmbo Owolabi Olakulehin, said that Ibadan has a long history of over 100 years of mutual relationship with the Ibira ethnic group.

He added that the Ibira were now recognised as residents of the ancient city.

Olubadan said, “Ibadan has a long history of over 100 years of mutual relationship with Ibira people. The Ibiras are no longer visitors but recognized residents of Ibadanland.

“We have therefore accepted them as one of us given the long standing peaceful co-existence and look forward to the continuity of the mutually beneficial relationship.”

Balogun earlier in his address, disclosed that their visit to the Olubadan was a tradition they have maintained over the years.

He said that they would continue to obey the laws and traditions of the ancient city.

Balogun described Ibadan as the most peaceful city in the world.

He used the opportunity to advocate for the creation of Ibadan State which according to him was long overdue.

A total of 259 athletes and officials from Abia State will depart Umuahia on Tuesday for the 8th National Youth Games holding in Asaba, Delta State.

Abia will participate in 28 out of 36 approved sports for this year’s Under 15 National Youth Games, which will hold from 9th to 19th September.

Speaking to journalists over the weekend on the State’s plans, Abia State Director of Sports, Obioma George said that with the State competing in 28 out of 36 different sports and with the high level of preparation and equipping of athletes and officials, they will return from the National Youth Games in flying colours.

He said that there was wild celebration in the State following the sterling performance recorded in Paris 2024 Paralympics by two athletes of Abia State origin, Onyinyechi Mark and Esther Nworgu, who won gold and silver medals in powerlifting, respectively where Onyinyechi Mark also set a new world record of 150kg.

The Abia state director of Sports Obioma George promised that the State team for Asaba will produce better results than their 2023 outing.

Obioma thanked Governor Alex Otti for providing the necessary funding for sports in the State and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Nwaobilor Ananaba for making Abia to reclaim its lost place in sports.
