Hope Rises as Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Nears Conclusion, Judge Vows Final Judgment by May 8

There is renewed optimism for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as Justice James Omotosho, presiding over the case, has adjourned proceedings to next week—May 6, 7, and 8, 2025—for a final judgment, declaring, "This matter must come to a conclusion by the 8th of May 2025.

It has lingered for 10 years, and I’m not going to stretch it further." Emphasizing accountability, the judge added, "We are going to give an account of our actions here on Earth when we die; I want to give a good account." With the decade-long legal battle nearing its end, supporters anticipate Kanu’s potential release, marking a pivotal moment in the struggle for justice and self-determination.

Social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of cyberstalking.

The arr€st, which was confirmed on Sunday, May 4, 2025, is sequel to multiple complaints that VDM has been utilizing his social media handles to har@ss, insult, and int!m!date individuals.

An EFCC source, who spoke with *Vanguard media team* in confidence, indicated that his actions might have vi0lated the Cybercrimes Act of 2015. But the complainants and further details on the case remain under wraps.

Let’s Talk Honestly—Why Are Things More Expensive in Our Region?

This is the second time I’m speaking out about this, not to complain, but to understand what’s really going on.

You see, in places like Europe and other developed countries, it’s normal that things are more expensive in big cities. London, for example, is more expensive than smaller towns in the UK. Same with Istanbul compared to other parts of Turkey. That’s understandable—big cities usually come with higher costs.

But here in Nigeria, especially in the Southeast, the opposite seems to be the case—and I find it hard to make sense of.

I recently travelled to my hometown in Uturu. I stopped to buy a small bottle of water, the same one I usually get in Lagos for ₦200. But I was told it was ₦250… and even ₦300 in some places! I honestly thought I was being overcharged, until I went to Enugu and saw that the same bottle was still ₦300—and people were buying it like it was normal.

And it’s not just water. From foodstuff to everyday items, prices seem to be higher in our villages and towns than they are in Lagos or Abuja. Even the ones we produce here!

So I ask again: Why are things so expensive in the East?

What worries me more is how people react when you ask questions. Instead of honest dialogue, you’re shut down or made to feel like you’re “talking too much.” But if we can’t ask questions in our own land, where else can we?

We need to have this conversation. It’s not about blaming anyone—it’s about understanding what’s wrong and finding ways to fix it. Because if we keep quiet, we’re all going to keep paying the price—literally.

Let’s stop pretending this is normal. It’s not.

The EFCC has confirmed that social critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), will soon be charged to court.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, in an interview with BBC News Pidgin, said VDM was arrested following multiple petitions alleging cyberstalking. “We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners.

We will release him when he meets the bail conditions and we will take the case to court as soon as possible. We are law-abiding,” he stated. When asked if the case had anything to do with Guaranty Trust Bank, Oyewale clarified that the petitions came from different individuals and emphasized that the EFCC owes petitioners a duty of protection.

DAILY POST reports that VDM was arrested on Friday by EFCC operatives over an undisclosed offense. His arrest came shortly after he revealed plans to visit a GTBank branch in Abuja to report an alleged deduction from his mother’s account.

Thousands of his likes are all in most government houses and they’re all protected . We know better .

The arrest, which took place on Sunday, April 13, 2025, stems from serious allegations of cultism and corruption,
Felix Okemini, popularly known as Jango and a former Senior Special Assistant on Internal Security to Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abakaliki.
Okemini's alleged involvement in cult-related activities dates back to his time at the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo, where he was reportedly expelled for cultism. Despite this history, he ascended the state’s political ranks, first serving as Director of Protocols to the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, and later appointed as SSA on Internal Security by Governor Nwifuru in 2023.
While in office, Okemini allegedly formed a group that unlawfully seized and sold government assets—including tractors, caterpillars, payloaders, Hilux vehicles, SUVs, and public lands—without the knowledge or authorization of the governor. Despite repeated warnings from Governor Nwifuru, sources say he continued these activities.
His downfall accelerated last month when he reportedly attended his matriculation ceremony at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ikwo, accompanied by suspected cultists and openly displaying cult gestures on Facebook. The incident led to his immediate dismissal from his government role and suspension from the university.
