From Ex AGF to Detainee: EFCC Snubs Court, Refuses to Release Malami

Former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, remains in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) despite being granted bail by an Abuja High Court, Chronicle Reporters has learnt.

According to an aide to the former minister, the court issued a bail order on December 23, 2025, directing that Malami be released pending further proceedings. However, as of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has allegedly failed to comply with the court’s directive.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the EFCC on why the former AGF is still in detention were unsuccessful as the commission had yet to issue a formal statement at press time.

EFCC Traces 41 Properties Worth ₦212bn to Former AGF Malami

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly traced 41 high-value properties to Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

According to findings by Chronicle Reporters, the assets—comprising hotels, residential buildings, parcels of land, schools, and a printing press—are spread across Kebbi State, Kano State, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Documents indicate that properties linked to Malami in Kebbi State are valued at approximately ₦162.19 billion, while those located in Kano State are estimated at ₦16.01 billion. Assets traced to the FCT are said to be worth about ₦34.68 billion.

The development is part of ongoing asset-tracing efforts by the EFCC as it intensifies investigations into alleged corruption and illicit enrichment involving former public office holders.

ILLEGAL DISCONNECTION OF ELECTRICITY SUPPLY TO PASSO COMMUNITY, GWAGWALADA, FCT: A GRAVE ABUSE OF POWER AND VIOLATION OF THE LAW — J. A. Ogundipe, Esq. AICMC, NILDS

The recent disconnection of electricity supply to the entire Passo Community in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), allegedly carried out with the active presence and support of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, raises serious constitutional, statutory, and human rights concerns that must not be ignored in a democratic society governed by the rule of law.

This action, in my considered opinion, is illegal, arbitrary, and ultra vires, both on the part of AEDC and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) who deployed armed police officers to accompany AEDC staff for the purpose of disconnecting electricity supply to an entire community.

The allegations emerged in a social media post shared by Muhammad Isah Hassan, a media operative aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and supporter of Hon. Kasim Mohammed, the PDP chairmanship candidate. According to the post, Hon. Ezekiel confronted Rev. Dr. Cas over his decision to host Hon. Kasim Mohammed at ECWA 1 Church.
