1. At least 15 unarmed Muslims were brutally murdered in cold blood and many injured in Sokoto on Tuesday, July 1 while observing Salat! It's worthy of note that terrorists premeditatedly invaded the mosque and attacked innocent worshippers in the city of the Sultan. This unfortunate incident should have made a big banner headline in the national dailies

2. But how did many media houses report the terrorist attack? "15 persons killed in Sokoto." No mention of their being Muslims or "while observing prayer" in their headlines. Imagine if it were 15 Christians killed during a Church service in Ondo, Imo, Benue or Anambra, the headlines would scream: "15 Christians killed in Ondo attack by suspected terrorists." But why the double standard?

3. As we mourn the 15 innocent Muslims, we condemn the silence of the hypocritical media. Muslims' lives matter as well. They are not just numbers. They are human beings with names, families, and faith. Mention their faith. Mention their story. Say it right.

4. Let’s be clear: If the media was consistent in reporting all killings as just "15 people killed", no complaint would have been made, no eye brow would have been raised. But when Christian victims are boldly identified, and Muslim victims are reduced to nameless “persons,” that’s not neutrality. That’s deliberate bias. We’re not asking for favours. We’re merely demanding fairness.

5. Mainstream media must remain fair in their analyses, balanced in their reportage and objective in their criticisms even when religious bodies pressure them to frame killings in their favour. If they consistently report all deaths as “People killed” without religious labels, we’d have no issues. But when they amplify Christian victims due to external clamour, and mute Muslim victims due to bias and prejudice, that's not journalism, that's hypocrisy. Asking us to be silent on this amounts to great injustice to Muslims, especially the lost lives.

Israel-Iran war: Trump provides ceasefire details, as Israel, Iran react

Al Jazeera reported that the White House believes negotiations began between Mr Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and after securing Israel’s agreement to halt its strikes, the president turned his attention to Iran.

Mr Trump reportedly contacted the Emir of Qatar, requesting assistance in reaching Tehran. “I’ve got the Israelis, but we need the Iranians on side,” Mr Trump is believed to have told the Qatari ruler.

The emir, along with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, subsequently engaged in a series of diplomatic efforts that eventually brought Iran to the negotiation table.

However, Iran may have a different interpretation of how the ceasefire unfolded.

According to Al Jazeera, a local Iranian media outlet reported that Mr Trump called Iranian officials, pleading for a ceasefire.

Trump Reacts to Iran Missile Attack: Says No Americans Hurt, Calls for Peace in the Middle East

U.S. President Donald Trump has reacted to Iran’s recent missile strike, saying no Americans were harmed and damage was very small.

Trump said:

“Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered.
There have been 14 missiles fired — 13 were knocked down, and 1 was ‘set free,’ because it was headed in a nonthreatening direction.
I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done.
Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE.
I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured.
Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same.
