This is the complaints of a friend of mine who purchased a 4Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD computer for video editing. What got his attention to the laptop was the fact that it looks sleek and portable.

In purchasing a computer, be it laptop, desktop etc, there are things to take note of before accepting to pay for it.

Factors to consider before paying for that windows computer.

The major thing to consider is the purpose of the computer. Would you be using it for editing documents alone, for video editing, gaming, 3D Modeling etc.

Storage: The storage is in two categories. The HDD and the SSD.
SSD storage is generally faster than HDD. If speed is not a factor to be considered, you can opt in for HDD storage.
Memory (RAM): Computers with larger memory tends to be faster than computers with lower memory.

Graphics card.

The king of all, CPU.

Battery life

CMOS Battery.

CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) is a chip on the motherboard that contains BIOS configuration, date, time and other information that the computer needs during startup. Normally, this information would be lost when the computer is shut down or loses power for some reason (dead battery, power failure, etc.). The CMOS battery supplies power to the CMOS chip, even when the computer is shut down. This battery is usually a watch type batter which can supply power for a year or more.

One of the most common signs that your CMOS battery is failing is your computer being unable to keep time and date even after being reset in the BIOS. Sometimes you will see error messages during boot such as, “CMOS checksum error” or “CMOS read error.
