Lagos Gears Up for Eyo Festival 2025

The Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Riliwan Babatunde Akiolu, has officially announced December 27th as the date for this year’s iconic Eyo Festival. Also known as the Adamu Orisa Play, it is one of Lagos’ most cherished cultural celebrations.

The Eyo Festival showcases Lagos’s rich tradition, honoring ancestors and celebrating the city’s heritage. The event features the famous white-clad Eyo masquerades, each carrying an opambata (staff), flowing through the streets in a vibrant procession accompanied by music, chants, dance, and age-old cultural rituals.

This year’s edition will honor former Lagos State governors, the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande and Michael Otedola, along with Alhaja Mogaji, who will be posthumously recognized—a tribute to influential individuals who have left their mark on Lagos.

This celebration attracts thousands of spectators, families, culture enthusiasts, and tourists, all eager to witness the unique spectacle that Lagos uniquely offers.
