A man spent years raising his son.
He fed him.

He educated him.

He taught him values.

He watched him grow from a little boy into a confident young man.

Like every good father, he wanted his son to succeed.

But he never imagined that one day, they would become political opponents.

Then it happened.

An election was announced.

Both father and son wanted the same seat.

Both believed they had something to offer the people.

Both entered the race.

The campaigns began.

Supporters took sides.

The tension grew.

Election day arrived.

The votes were cast.

The counting started.

And then came the shock.

The son had defeated his father.

Imagine that moment.

The father was not just any man.

He was Alvan Ikoku—the great educationist whose face would later appear on Nigeria's ₦10 note.

A respected nationalist.

A man admired across the country.

Yet the people chose his son, Samuel Ikoku.

What happened next is the part that many Nigerians need to hear today.

There was no family war.

No insults.

No accusations of betrayal.

No campaign of hatred.

The father accepted the verdict of the people and reportedly supported his son's political future.

Read that again.

A father lost an election to his own son and still chose peace over bitterness.

Now compare that to what we see today.

Some people attack lifelong friends because of politics.

Some insult family members because they support a different candidate.

Some see politicians as messiahs who can never be questioned.

The moment you criticize their preferred candidate, you become a saboteur.

A traitor.

An enemy.

A regional problem.

Suddenly, your years of friendship mean nothing because of an election.

Think about how dangerous that is.

More than 60 years ago, a father and son stood on opposite sides of a political contest and remained family.

Today, some people cannot survive a disagreement with a neighbour on Facebook.

Politics was never meant to make us enemies.

It was meant to give us choices.

The lesson from this story is simple:

If Alvan Ikoku could accept losing to his own son, then surely we can accept that not everyone will support the same candidate.

Democracy is not when everyone agrees.

Democracy is when people disagree without hatred.

The son won the election.

The father won something even greater.

He won the respect of history.

And decades later, we are still talking about him.

Will future generations say the same about us?

Or will they only remember how we turned politics into a war against one another?

WHETHER MYTH OR MYSTICAL; THE JINX IS BROKEN AND PEACE IN OHANAEZE NDIGBO LAGOS

All hail Senator Azuta Mbata, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World wide!

All hail the members of Global Executive Council (GEC)!!

All hail Chief Oba Ojoto, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State!!!

Indeed, it is on fours that we; either severally or jointly reclaimed the victory of TRUTH against FALSEHOOD in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State.

Recall that in my earlier writing, I did state unequivocally that 'conscience is an open wound which only truth can heal', being an affront or confront to Ubochi C Ubochi 's unfounded, abusive and recalcitrant statements, calculated to destroy the repute and the reputable standing of the person of Chief Leo Okafor (Oba Ojoto); President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos, the legitimacy of the recent election and taint our morals and socio-cultural yearnings.

Today, it is applause that Senator Azuta Mbata, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World wide and his astute 'concerned' members of the Global Executive Council (GEC) have in all diligence and decisiveness declared the 'TRUTH' and nothing but 'TRUTH' as follows:

(a) That Chief Evarest Ozonweke was at no time APPOINTED the coordinator of the South West, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

By inference, Chief Evarest Ozonweke is an 'IMPOSTOR'.

(b) That any action, directive or deed by Chief Evarest Ozonweke in the said office or purportedly done is 'ULTRA VIRES', meaning 'ILLEGAL', illegitimate and of no effect.

By inference, Chief Evarest Ozonweke's self-acclaimed title as 'President of Presidents or Self-President over elected President' of Ohanaeze NDIGBO South West is a charade, illusion and/or myth.

Assuming but not conceding, Chief Evarest Ozonweke, by arrogating to himself 'Coordinator of South West Ohanaeze ' has by inference automatically invoked to himself 'Deputy-PG World wide', a title that is an aberration, irregular and unconstitutional to the present making of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World wide.

(c) The Senator Azuta Mbata led TRUTH COMMISSION, (Concerned GEC) again afforded us the knowledge that the position of 'South West Coordinator' is and was never enshrined in the past or revised Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World wide.

Having practiced the profession of law for twenty (20) since call-to-bar, it is my very profound knowledge that 'justice must not only be done but must be manifestly be seen to be done'. This is a long standing legal principle that validates 'TRUTH' on the scale of justice.

To the end of the struggle for identity, common socio-cultural heritage of Ndigbo, the preservation of the legacies of our ancestors, the moral fabric of leadership thoughts, it is important that we extend our profound appreciation to Senator Azuta Mbata and the members of Global Executive Council (GEC) for healing our wounds, instituting TRUTH, and providing a ladder for growth and continuity of our cultural aspirations as Ndigbo in Lagos.

In concordance to our further pursuit for TRUTH, Chief Evarest Ozonweke is the ring leader of all problem(s) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos for the past ten (10) years, having written at least three (3) petitions in every administration since he joined Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos.

History recorded that he became active in Chief Barr. Fabian Onwughalu, became the closest in position and relationship yet he staged a coup de'tat which Chief Fabian Onwughalu narrowly escaped but not without some injuries. Chief Barr. Fabian Onwughalu's knowledge of law and enforcement really helped him to manage to complete his tenure.

May it interest you to know that Chief Barr. Fabian Onwughalu eventually conducted election and Chief Leo Okafor ( Oba Ojoto) won but for Chief Evarist Ozonweke 's 'hanky panky' or meddling with the powers-that-be in Ohanaeze National, he surreptitiously sold Oba Ojoto for kobo, convinced him and 'duped' him of his victory into handing over to Nnia Nwodo. This episode ushered in Chief Solomon Aguene into power.

The one-man squad; Chief Evarist Ozonweke masqueraded problems and yet appeared as 'Holy Saviour', purporting to solve same, a sugar-coated critic. Also, in Chief Solomon Aguene 's regime, I was one of the witnesses (Deputy Women Leader) to the many petitions written by Chief Evarest Ozonweke, all ill-conceived and foist on personal interests and evil motive to control powers.

With the foregoing, little did Ozonweke know that over time his character, like faeces in septic drainage seeped all over via osmosis, as he constituted another new faction as soon as Chief Sunday Ossai and Chief Solomon Aguene settled.

Nonsensically, Chief Evarest Ozonweke, Robert Obasi, Ubochi C Ubochi and few others decided, came to the fore-bearing to waste the time of the Presidency of Oba Ojoto, stop any meaning legacy therefrom and have boasted that they were sure that Oba Ojoto didn't like problem and would 'run away' at the heat.

Now, for the integrity of Oba Ojoto, the likes of us and especially in the light of the value for our time, the efforts and hardwork of Senator Mbata and the GEC, all hands shall be deck to follow Chief Evarest Ozonweke and put an end to 'petition-writing', court-cases', and actions to swindle and 'obtain election money', thereby thwarting the heritage of Igbos in Lagos.

Needless to overhaul this piece with the activities of Chief Evarist Ozonweke on G-50 which he used to bedevil Chief Sunday Ossai's then nascent regime and crippled same.

As CONCERNED EXECUTIVES, whilst we expect Senator Azuta Mbata and his GEC, long awaited official visit to Lagos, we shall not allow the machinery of justice for the cause of Igbo Nation to run amok in Lagos State.

REJOINDER TO THE PURPORTED “PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE” BY MR. COLLINS T. EZEILO

ENOUGH OF THE CONFUSION: RESPECT THE STRUCTURE AND THE APPROPRIATE CHANNELS OF AUTHORITY

The attention of the leadership and members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State has been drawn to a purported “Public Safety Notice” attributed to Mr. Collins T. Ezeilo, in which members of Ndigbo were reportedly cautioned against attending the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State General Assembly Monthly Meeting scheduled for 29th August 2026, to be jointly hosted by Ojo LGA, Oto-Awori LCDA and Iba LCDA.

The said notice is also understood to have described the proposed meeting as “null and void.”
Given the potential implications of such a communication, it is important to set the record straight and urge members of the public to rely only on communications issued through the recognized leadership and official channels of the organization.

AUTHORITY MUST OPERATE WITHIN THE ESTABLISHED STRUCTURE

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, like every properly structured organization, operates through recognized leadership organs and established channels of communication.
Questions concerning the convening, regulation or cancellation of a State-level meeting should therefore be addressed through the appropriate State leadership and organs, in accordance with the organization’s constitution, rules and applicable decisions.
It is our considered position that an officer serving at the Local Government Area or Local Council Development Area level should not be presumed to possess authority to issue State-wide directives unless such authority has been expressly conferred by the appropriate organ of the organization.

This is not about personalities. It is about institutional order, due process and respect for organizational structure.

THE USE OF THE EXPRESSION “NULL AND VOID”

The description of a State-level meeting as “null and void” raises an important question:
By what recognized authority was such a declaration made?

A declaration affecting the entire State Chapter should ordinarily emanate from the appropriate authority empowered to make such a decision.
For the avoidance of doubt, a WhatsApp message, social media publication or other informal communication should not, by itself, be treated as a substitute for an official decision of the competent organ of the organization.

Where there is any disagreement concerning the validity of a meeting or organizational decision, the appropriate course is to resolve such issues through the recognized constitutional and administrative channels rather than through competing public pronouncements.

THE STATE EXECUTIVE IS A COLLECTIVE INSTITUTION

It is important to emphasize that the affairs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State should be handled collectively through the recognized State leadership and appropriate organs of the organization.

No individual, irrespective of position, should create uncertainty among members by appearing to speak for the entire State Chapter without clear and verifiable authorization.
We therefore encourage all officers, leaders and stakeholders to respect the boundaries of their respective offices and to use the appropriate channels whenever matters affecting the entire State Chapter arise.
This approach will promote unity, reduce misunderstanding and protect the integrity of the organization.

A CALL FOR CALM, UNITY AND RESPONSIBLE PARTICIPATION

We call on all Ndigbo residing in Lagos State—including men, women, youths, community leaders, traders, professionals, entrepreneurs, affiliate groups and other stakeholders—to remain calm, discerning and guided by verified information.

The August edition of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State Rotational Grassroots Engagement Monthly Meeting, scheduled for 29th August 2026 and jointly hosted by Ojo LGA, Oto-Awori LCDA and Iba LCDA, is intended to provide an opportunity for grassroots engagement, consultation, interaction and discussion of matters affecting the Igbo community in Lagos State.

Issues relating to the welfare, unity, security, economic interests, political participation and general development of Ndigbo in Lagos State deserve constructive engagement rather than unnecessary controversy.

Members are therefore encouraged to obtain information concerning the meeting directly from recognized and appropriate organizational channels before acting on messages circulated on social media or other informal platforms.

NDIGBO, THIS IS OUR COMMUNITY

The strength of any organization depends on the willingness of its members to participate, listen, deliberate and contribute positively.
We must not allow disagreements among individuals to overshadow the broader interests of the Igbo community.
Differences of opinion are natural in every organization. However, such differences should be managed through dialogue, due process and the appropriate institutional mechanisms.

Let us therefore choose unity over division, dialogue over confrontation, and due process over unilateral pronouncements.

JOIN THE MOVING TRAIN

We remain committed to the progress, unity and development of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State.

Under the leadership structure recognized by the State Chapter, including the leadership of Chief Leo Okafor, Oba Ojoto, we encourage all stakeholders to contribute positively to the advancement of the organization.

There is room for everyone who genuinely desires the progress of Ndigbo in Lagos.
Rather than creating parallel narratives or competing directives, let us work together within the recognized structure and pursue the common interests of our people.

A FINAL WORD

Mr. Collins T. Ezeilo and all other stakeholders are respectfully encouraged to use the appropriate organizational channels when communicating matters that concern the entire Lagos State Chapter.
No disagreement should be allowed to weaken the unity, credibility and collective interests of Ndigbo in Lagos State.

We urge all members to remain peaceful, vigilant and discerning, and to verify information through recognized channels before accepting or circulating any directive purportedly issued on behalf of the State Chapter.

Ndigbo in Lagos are one people with a common heritage and a shared future.
Let us deliberate together.
Let us build together.
Let us move forward together.

Tinubu Congratulates Adeleke, Says Osun Victory Affirms Strength of Nigeria’s Democracy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the governorship election as a reflection of the confidence reposed in the governor by the people of the state.

Tinubu, in a statement, said he personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his electoral victory and wished him success as he prepares to begin another four-year term in office.

The President said Adeleke’s re-election demonstrated that democratic principles remain strong in Nigeria and expressed optimism that democracy would continue to flourish under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.

“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.

Adeleke secured victory in the election after defeating his closest challenger, the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, according to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Following his victory, Tinubu urged the governor to extend his leadership beyond partisan politics by bringing together residents who supported different candidates during the election.

He stressed that the responsibility of governance required Adeleke to unite the people of Osun State and focus on issues that would promote development, stability and improved living conditions across the state.

“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” the President said.

Tinubu also commended other candidates who participated in the election, describing their participation as an important contribution to the development of Nigeria’s democratic culture.

He said the willingness of political contestants to participate in the electoral process demonstrated the importance of democratic competition and allowed citizens to exercise their constitutional right to choose their leaders.

“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture,” he stated.

According to the President, the outcome of the election represented the decision of the electorate and should therefore be respected by all political actors.

He described the result as further evidence that democratic governance could continue to thrive when citizens are allowed to freely express their preferences through the ballot.

Tinubu also praised INEC and the security agencies for their roles in the conduct of the election, particularly their efforts to ensure that voting and the collation of results were conducted peacefully.

“I must also commend the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security agencies for conducting a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner,” he said.

The President’s comments come amid heightened political interest in the Osun election, which attracted significant attention from political parties and national leaders.

The election was closely watched because of the competitive nature of the contest and the broader political implications for the 2027 general elections.

The reconciliation meeting held in Ikeja, bringing together aspirants, party leaders, stakeholders, and members across the Ikeja Federal Constituency, was a commendable and timely initiative towards strengthening the unity, peace, and cohesion of our great party ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Heavy Rain: NiMet Issues Fresh Flood Alert For Lagos, Ogun, Rivers

The agency’s alert was contained in its Tuesday Weather Outlook for the date, in which it cautioned that persistent rainfall across southern Nigeria could lead to flash floods, particularly in low-lying and coastal communities including Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ondo, and Akwa Ibom states.

NiMet forecasted morning thunderstorms with light rainfall over parts of the southern region, while noting that rainfall intensity is expected to increase later in the day, with moderate to heavy showers likely across the entire southern belt by afternoon and evening.

For the northern region, the agency predicted morning thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in states such as Borno, Adamawa, and Taraba, while later in the day, additional thunderstorm activity is expected across Bauchi, Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe, and Kebbi states.

In the North Central region, NiMet projected mostly cloudy conditions in the morning, with chances of thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Benue, progressing to more widespread moderate rainfall later in the day.

It further advised motorists to exercise caution during rainfall, avoid driving through flooded roads, and refrain from taking shelter under tall trees due to the risk of lightning strikes.

NiMet also advised airlines and aviation operators to obtain airport-specific weather updates to ensure safe flight operations, stressing that adherence to safety advisories would help reduce weather-related risks across affected regions.
