Nigeria’s exam halls are officially entering their tech era 📱✍🏽

From pen-and-paper scripts to full-on tablet-based theory exams, the country’s examination system is quietly but firmly going digital. During the 2025 CB WASSCE for private candidates, students wrote long-form answers, drew diagrams with stylus pens, and completed objective questions — all inside CBT centres, under real WAEC exam conditions.

What once felt impossible is now very real. With the Federal Government targeting 100% computer-based testing by 2027 and students already calling the experience “surprisingly easy,” Nigeria isn’t just testing digital exams — it’s proving they can work at scale.

LG Electronics Nigeria has issued an urgent warning over counterfeit LG TVs flooding the market, following the surfacing of videos showing fake TVs being packaged in LG-branded cartons and labels. These products are not manufactured or approved by LG and carry significant risks — ranging from poor performance and electrical hazards to a lack of warranty and customer support.

According to LG, protecting Nigerian consumers remains a top priority. “Consumer safety and product quality are non-negotiable for us,” says Moses Osime, PR Manager, LG Electronics Nigeria.

How to stay safe
✔️ Buy only from authorized LG dealers
✔️ Check factory seals, model numbers, serial numbers & warranty cards
✔️ If the price feels suspiciously cheap, trust your instincts
✔️ Verify your TV at lg.com/africa/support/product-validation

Cape Town-based MEST Africa, backed by Absa, just opened applications for the MEST Africa Challenge 2025—a pan‑African pitch competition focused on fintech and high-value value‑chain startups. Early-stage startups (less than 3 years old, operating in at least one Absa market with at least US $5K MRR) compete for a shot at US $50,000 equity, entry into MEST’s portfolio, and the chance to pilot solutions with Absa business units. Applications are open from August 4 to September 26, 2025, with virtual semi‑finals in October and a live grand finale in Cape Town in November. This is a rare chance for African fintech founders to scale their impact and gain global exposure.

Cape Town-based VC firm HAVAÍC has raised $25M out of a targeted $50M for its African Innovation Fund 3, with Sanlam Multi-Manager coming in as a major investor—marking Sanlam’s first serious entry into South Africa’s venture capital space. The fund focuses on early-stage African tech startups with cross-border potential in fintech, agritech, and digital infrastructure.

HAVAÍC has already deployed capital into startups like SAPay, Sportable, NjiaPay, and SwiftVEE. The firm recently celebrated two major exits: RapidDeploy was acquired by Motorola Solutions in one of SA’s biggest tech acquisitions, while hearX Group merged with US-listed Eargo in a $100M deal.
