Sincere Duʿa Is Never Wasted

Zakariyyā (ʿalayhis-salām) called out to Allah:.. رَبِّ اِنِّىۡ وَهَنَ الۡعَظۡمُ مِنِّىۡ وَاشۡتَعَلَ الرَّاۡسُ شَيۡبًا وَّلَمۡ اَكُنۡۢ بِدُعَآئِكَ رَبِّ شَقِيًّا
“...My Lord! Surely my bones have become brittle, and grey hair has spread across my head, but I have never been disappointed in my prayer to You, my Lord!” (19:4).

Abu Jaʿfar (raḥimahullāh) said: “He means: O Lord, I was never left disappointed in calling upon You. Every time I turned to You in need, You responded and fulfilled it.”

Sincere duʿā’ is never wasted. Call out to Allah with humility, respect and love just as Zakariyyā (ʿalayhis-salām) did. You will find that Your Lord hears, responds, and never leaves you disappointed.

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

Rabbana afrigh 'alayna sabran wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna 'alal-qawmil-kafirin.

"Our Lord, pour upon us patience and make our steps firm and grant us victory over the disbelieving people." (Quran 2:250)

O Allāh, all praise belongs to You for Your countless blessings — those we know and those we do not.

We ask You, O Lord, to keep Your grace upon us, to lift from us every worry and hardship, to expand our provision, to forgive our sins, and to count us among Your righteous servants.

O Allāh, do not leave us to ourselves even for the blink of an eye. Be our Helper and Supporter in this life and the next.

Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه reported Allāh's Messenger ﷺ as saying:

“Avoid suspicion, for suspicion is the gravest lie in talk and do not be inquisitive about one another and do not spy upon one another and do not feel envy with the other, and nurse no malice, and nurse no aversion and hostility against one another. And be fellow-brothers and servants of Allāh.”

[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2563a]

The hardest part of practising Islam isn’t praying, fasting, or wearing hijab, it’s working on your character. It’s stopping yourself from gossiping, holding back anger when it’s hardest to, and making sure your words or actions don’t hurt anyone, even without meaning to.
