Africa, let’s talk about visa reciprocity. 🌍

Seven African countries now offer visa-free entry to all African citizens.

If your country is not one of them, perhaps the conversation shouldn’t only be about why another African country requires you to obtain a visa.

Ask your own government: What is our visa policy toward citizens of other African countries?

Visa policies often work both ways. If we want a more open and connected Africa, it has to start with reciprocity, accountability and a willingness to look inward.

Before complaining about the visa requirements of another African country, check what your own country requires of its fellow Africans.

A border is a border—let’s make sure we are not building the same walls we complain about. 🌍✈️

Some people enter our lives for years.

Others appear for only a few hours.

And somehow, the second group can leave the bigger impression.

That happened to me on Flight ET877.

I met a little girl who was a complete stranger. We spent only a few hours together, yet by the time we were about to part ways, she felt strangely familiar.

I couldn’t stop wondering about chance.

Why do certain people cross our paths?

Why do some encounters stay with us long after the journey ends?

Suffering… Smiling… Repeating.

“I know I’m going to suffer.”
It was after 8 a.m. The African sun was already doing what it does best. Sensible people were indoors. I decided it was the perfect time to go for a run.

Two kilometres later…
“I’m already suffering.”
No surprises there.


Half a kilometre later…
“Now I’m cruising.”
Wait… wasn’t I suffering just moments ago?

The camera catches only my shadow while all you hear is me huffing and puffing. 😂
If my shadow could talk, it would probably say, “Madam, whose idea was this?”

We voluntarily sign up to be uncomfortable. We complain while we’re running, then brag about it afterwards. We collect medals as souvenirs of our suffering… and before long, we’re planning the next run.
Somewhere between “Why did I leave my house?” and “That was amazing!” something changes.
That’s the runner’s high.
It doesn’t always make sense.
But every runner understands it.

🇳🇬 OUR PASSPORT DIDN’T WAKE UP ONE DAY AND DECIDE TO BECOME WEAKER.

Our passport reflects us.

The Nigerian passport has dropped again on the Henley Passport Index.

Many people are angry.

I am not.

I’m concerned.

Over the years, I have carried our green and white flag across 105 countries and all 7 continents. I’ve celebrated Nigeria at every finish line. I’ve also stood in embassy queues, filled out countless visa forms and experienced the reality of travelling with a Nigerian passport.

Those experiences have taught me one thing.

Strong passports are built on strong nations.

Not on complaints.

Not on entitlement.

But on trust.

Trust in our institutions.
Trust in our leaders.
Trust in our systems.
Trust in us.

Every country has the right to decide who enters its borders.

The better question is:

What must we do as Nigerians to make the world want to welcome us?

I’ll keep carrying our flag with pride.

But I’ll also keep asking the hard questions.

Because loving Nigeria means wanting her to be better.
