Breaking: Former PDP Gov. Candidate, Jandor Returns To APC

A former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2023 general election, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Jandor announced his readiness to return APC today at a press briefing held at Liberty Place, Ikeja, in Lagos.

Jandor had on March 3 dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over what he described as anti-party activities of some leaders of the party in Lagos State.

After his public announcement over his decision to dump PDP, he had met with President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and other prominent political bigwigs in the country.

However, he finally retuned the ruling party saying, “We have decided to join the political party that considers winning not minding who is in the ballot.

“We have decided to return to the All Progressives Congress, APC,” Jandor said.

He added, “Before you are quick to remind me of the reasons why I dumped APC, I want to say that there is a Yoruba adage that says, if a woman has not tried two husbands, she would not know which one is better. ”

LASAA Apprehends Lekki Billboard Vandals

Officials of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) have arrested individuals accused of vandalising billboards in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

In a statement, Atinuke da-Silva-Osadjere, LASAA’s Head of Corporate Communications and Strategy, described the arrests as part of efforts to curb the “Deliberate removal and destruction” of legally placed street lamp pole advertisements along Admiralty Way, a major thoroughfare in Lagos.

She said the suspects would face legal action, stating, “The law will take its course.”

The crackdown follows strong objections from the Lekki Peninsula Residents Association (LERA), which reportedly took independent action to remove the advertisements due to aesthetic concerns.

The incident has sparked a wider debate on balancing community aesthetics with commercial rights in Lagos’ rapidly growing economy.

LASAA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting businesses while ensuring compliance with outdoor advertising regulations.

“We recognise the crucial role of outdoor advertising in promoting local businesses and fostering community engagement,” da-Silva-Osadjere said.

To prevent future conflicts, the agency is advocating for a “Collaborative approach” with community organisations, emphasizing dialogue and mutual understanding.

“Our goal is to regulate, not just penalise. We encourage constructive engagement with stakeholders to maintain order in the advertising sector,” she added.

LASAA has urged the public to direct inquiries to its corporate communications and strategy department for further clarification on signage regulations.

Tinubu Not Worried About 2027 Election— Presidency

The Presidency has clarified that President Bola Tinubu is currently not preoccupied with the 2027 elections but he is prioritising economic reforms to improve Nigerians’ lives.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, emphasised that the president remains focused on implementing long-term policies rather than engaging in political manoeuvring for the next election.

Sharing his thoughts on 𝕏, Dare highlighted Tinubu’s commitment to economic transformation, citing key improvements in financial indicators.

“We’ve seen our foreign reserves go up. We’ve seen inflation come down. We’ve seen our trade surplus go up. We’ve seen exports go up and imports drop.

“We’ve seen the investments that have been attracted—over $50 billion. We are seeing prices dropping. We have clear data, and you have a President that is clearly in the driver’s seat, and he has stayed the course of the decisions he has taken.

“And I think that the next election is not really in his view right now. It’s how to make sure that at the end of his first term, he can sit back and say, ‘I have impacted the lives of Nigerians. I have turned this economy around.’”

Dare’s remarks come amid growing political realignments, with efforts underway to establish a coalition that could challenge Tinubu in 2027.

Leading the charge is former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, whose recent defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has added fuel to speculations of a well-orchestrated plan to weaken Tinubu’s hold on power.

El-Rufai’s move, sources who spoke with Saturday Sun say, is part of a broader strategy to mobilize aggrieved APC elements into a formidable opposition bloc, with the SDP serving as the rallying platform.

Investigations have revealed that El-Rufai has initiated talks with key political figures, including former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, ex-APC National Chairmen, Abdullahi Adamu and John Odigie-Oyegun.

The Lagos First Lady joined the first and second batches of Lagos State pilgrims to celebrate on the occasion of their Thanksgiving Service for 2024 Holy Pilgrimage, which held at Chapel of Christ The Light, Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday, March 13.

Lagos GDP Hits $259 Billion, Ranks As Africa’s Second Largest City Economy

Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos, is now Africa’s Second Largest City Economy with an impressive Gross Domestic Product of a whopping $259 billion, based on Purchasing Power Parity (PPP).

In the continent, the former Nigerian capital now trails Cairo, Egypt, which is the continent’s largest city economy.

This was made known during the official launch of the Lagos Economic Development Update (LEDU) 2025 on Wednesday.

According to the report, the state ranks as Africa’s second-largest city economy by purchasing power parity, following Cairo.

The report reveals that the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) stood at US$259.75 billion in 2023.

The Lagos economy recorded significant growth in the first half of 2024, expanding to N27.38 trillion, a substantial increase from N19.65 trillion in 2023.

This growth highlights the resilience of Nigeria’s commercial capital amid economic reforms and ongoing infrastructural investments.

Despite this growth, the tax-to-GDP ratio remains low at 2.3%, reflecting the need for enhanced revenue mobilization efforts.

Looking ahead, the Lagos State government has set ambitious projections for the 2025 fiscal year, with expectations for further economic expansion and stability. The key assumptions include:

GDP Growth: The state’s GDP is projected to grow from N54.77 trillion in 2024 to N66.47 trillion in 2025. Real GDP growth is expected to range between 5.02% and 6.49%.

Sectoral Growth: The service sector will continue its expansion, complemented by improvements in agriculture and industrial production. Economic stability is expected to be aided by a decline in PMS (petrol) prices and a stable naira/dollar exchange rate.

Inflation Forecast: Headline inflation is projected to be 34.2%, with food inflation slightly higher at 34.9%.

Revenue Projections: The Lagos State Government anticipates generating N2.79 trillion in revenue for 2025, emphasizing the need for increased fiscal discipline and diversification of revenue sources.

Lagos remains a key destination for investors looking to tap into Nigeria’s vibrant economic landscape.

The state’s continued economic expansion, coupled with strategic policy interventions, presents opportunities in infrastructure development, technology, real estate, and manufacturing.

However, observers note that while Lagos enjoys a large economy, challenges such as high inflation, foreign exchange volatility, and infrastructure deficits must be addressed to sustain long-term growth.

Tinubu Ends Assembly Crisis, Backs Obasa To Remain Lagos Speaker

President Bola Tinubu has resolved the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, endorsing Mudashiru Obasa to continue as Speaker.

The decision came after a closed-door meeting between Tinubu and all 40 lawmakers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

The President’s stance goes against the advice of a panel led by former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande and former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel. The panel, along with the Governance Advisory Council, had initially suggested that Obasa should step down after being reinstated.

Their recommendation was part of a political arrangement that first required Mojisola Meranda to resign as Speaker, allowing Obasa to return. The understanding was that Obasa would then step down shortly after, making way for a new Speaker from Lagos West to balance the state’s political structure.

Recall that 49 days after his impeachment on March 3, 2025, Obasa was reinstated as Speaker following Meranda’s resignation and her re-election as Deputy Speaker. However, instead of stepping down as expected, he adjourned the Assembly indefinitely and refused to leave office.

Lawmakers had on Wednesday arrived at the Presidential Villa in a Coaster bus around 2 pm before being ushered into the President’s office. While Meranda arrived with her colleagues, Obasa arrived separately at about 3 pm.

A Presidency official, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that Tinubu had urged all lawmakers to work together for the stability of the Assembly and Lagos State.

“Tinubu met the lawmakers behind closed doors. They spoke about their grievances, and the President has resolved the problems,” the source said.

“With this development, Obasa will remain Speaker. His position is no longer threatened, and all lawmakers have agreed to work with him. They even had a photo session with the President after the meeting. It went well.”

Despite Tinubu’s intervention, some stakeholders are reportedly unhappy that the original agreement was not followed. The source, however, assured that Tinubu would continue engaging all parties to maintain unity.

“Some stakeholders are naturally displeased that Obasa did not follow through on the agreement with the Akande panel. But I’m sure the President will continue to engage everyone to settle the matter,” the source added.

A source close to Obasa revealed that Tinubu also directed him to withdraw his lawsuit challenging his impeachment at the Lagos State High Court.

“The President told the lawmakers to allow Obasa to work, and Obasa should also withdraw the case against Meranda and the lawmakers in court. The lawmakers have agreed to this,” the source said.

Obasa was impeached on January 13, 2025, by 35 lawmakers, who accused him of high-handedness, financial mismanagement, and authoritarian leadership. Meranda was elected as Speaker but later resigned under pressure from party leaders.
