The Association of Table Waters Producers (ATWAP) has said that the price of pure water may be sold for N100 per one due to the high cost of production materials.

The group which spoke at a press conference in Lagos, said they’ve been facing so many challenges such as high cost of diesel, lack of power as well as high cost of production. They also said that the current price of water sales reflects the situation of the country.

One of the group’s representatives said;

“Pure water is sold for N50 now, and it is even going up to N100 per one. At our own end, there’s nothing we can do. The cost of production is high.

“As at last year December, we were buying materials (nylon) for N1,100 per KG. The 6 kg of nylon is now N3,600/N3,700. The cost of treatment is also high. The increment for these materials comes at 3 times in one week. It is also difficult for us to increase the price of water.

“If ordinary Nigerians can’t afford pure water, I don’t know where we are going. Every water producer is funding the pure water factory on personal pockets or borrowed money.

“Many banks don’t give pure water producers loans. We want Nigerians to bear with us. We don’t want Nigerians to buy water at more than N20 per sachet. The cost of production including the price of diesel has affected so many things.”

Nnamdi Kanu wins appeal court case against FG, discharged and quitted

The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja has discharged the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu was prosecuted by the Federal Government at the Federal High Court in Abuja for 15 count charges bordering, including treasonable felony and terrorism, offences he denied.

Kanu had faulted the order of Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court, Abuja, which ordered him to answer seven out of the 15-count terrorism charge against him.

He had prayed the appellate court to quash the entire charges and set him free on various grounds including that the purported offences were not committed in Nigeria.

Kanu has repeatedly called for the breakaway of southern Nigeria to form the Republic of Biafra.

On October 2015, he was arrested by Nigerian authorities on an 11-count charge bordering on “terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, illegal possession of fi****ms and improper importation of goods, among others.”

He was granted bail on April 2017 for medical reasons.

However, Kanu fled the country in September 2017 after an invasion of his home by the military in Afara-Ukwu, near Umuahia, Abia State.

He was then sighted in Israel before relocating to London, UK. He has been under DSS detention since June 2021 when we was illegally captured in Kenya and brought to Nigeria.

Delivering it's judgement on Thursday, October 13, a three-man panel of the Court of Appeal said the Federal High Court lacks the jurisdiction to try him in view of his abduction and extraordinary rendition to Nigeria in flagrant violation of the OAU convention and protocol on extradition.

The court held that the 15-count charge preferred against Kanu did not disclose the place, date, time and nature of the alleged offences before being unlawfully extradited to Nigeria in clear violation of international treaties.

The court also held that the Feder

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie declined the national honors- media aide says

Award-winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who was recently decorated with Harvard University’s iconic W.E.B. Du Bois Medal, has broken her silence over her non-appearance at the conferment of national honours ceremony by President Buhari. on Tuesday, October 11.

Putting the records straight, a member of Chimamanda’s communications team, Omawumi Ogbe, told The Guardian that she declined the honour.⁣

“Following the recent conferment of national awards by the President, there have been conflicting reports about one of the announced recipients, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Some social media users say the award-winning writer rejected the award, while others say she accepted it.⁣

The author did not accept the award and, as such, did not attend the ceremony. She, however, did not want to create undue publicity around it, so her non-acceptance was conveyed privately” Ogbe said

While conferring the award on 450 Nigerians and foreigners, President Buhari had justified the honours, saying the awardees had distinguished themselves in the service of the nation and humanity.⁣

“We have among the recipients today, Amb. Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who are doing our country proud on the international scene. Our dear sisters are a source of inspiration to our young women that through the dint of hard work and dedication, they can achieve greatness.”⁣the President said

51-year-old man arrested for allegedly beating his wife to d€ath in Ogun.....what he did afterwards will shock you

Men of the Ogun state police command on October 12 arrested a 51 years old man Oluranti Badejo for allegedly beating his 40-year-old wife Folasade Badejo to d€ath.

The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Mowe divisional headquarters by the younger sister of the deceased, who reported that she received information from her elder sister's daughter that her elder sister who lives with her husband at NO 7, Madam Felicia street, Orimerunmu, Mowe has been beaten to d€ath by her husband.

Upon the report, the DPO Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, quickly dispatched the divisional detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested. The lifeless body of the victim was then evacuated to the mortuary in Shagamu for post mortem examination.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect str@ngled the deceased during a scuffle as a result of minor disagreement.

Having realized that he has k!lled his wife, the suspect used hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased, so as to look as if she was electrocuted. But unfortunately for him, their 8-year-old daughter was there and witnessed the whole thing. It was the daughter who testified seen her father strangulating her deceased mother to d€ath.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be taken to Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has listed insecurity, thuggery and social media fake news as major threats to next year’s general elections.

The Commission’s Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu, made the disclosure at an event organized by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) at the NED Headquarters, Washington DC, USA.

On the concerns ahead of the poll, he said;

“Are there concerns about the 2023 general election? I will be the last to say there are no concerns. The first concern is the perennial issue of insecurity in different parts of the country, compounded by the traditional issues of thuggery during elections organized by some of the political actors.

“I say it is a perennial issue because at the end of the day, it is nothing new. However, the dimension of the insecurity is a concern in the sense that in the past, it was localized or confined to a particular part of the country, the northeast. But now it is more widespread and we are keeping our eyes particularly on the northwest and the southeastern parts of the country.

“Elections are conducted by human beings. We worry about the security of our officials, voters and the materials to be deployed. Without them, we cannot conduct elections. We have spoken to the security agencies, they have assured us that the situation will improve before the elections. So, fingers crossed. Those who are supposed to secure the environment have assured us that they will secure the environment for us to conduct elections. Our responsibility is to conduct elections.

“The social media has been a force for good. The commission does not support censorship. We believe that the antidote to fake news is greater transparency and openness and we have been demonstrating greater transparency and openness."

A man who was locked up inside a room for twenty years has been discovered by environmental officers in Kaduna state.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, the officers found the man in a house in Benin street, in the central part of Kaduna metropolis on Wednesday, October 12.

A man who m¥rdered a Canadian teenager he met online, who had flown to the UK to be with him, has been jailed for 23 years.

Jack Sepple, 23, stabbed Ashley Wadsworth, 19, to d€ath after she travelled from her country to meet him in Europe.

On Monday, October 10, he was sentenced to jail at Chelmsford Crown Court for life with a minimum term of 23 years and six months.

Justice Murray, said it was a ‘brutal and cowardly attack’ and that Sepple ‘gratuitously inflicted some 90 wounds on her body.’

Ashley Wadsworth was found unresponsive at a flat in Tennyson Road, Chelmsford on February 1 this year after the 19 year old was found stabbed to death.

Sepple was arrested at the scene and later charged with Miss Wadsworth’s murder.

Ms Wadsworth had travelled from Vernon in British Columbia on a six month tourist visa.

Earlier this year she posted photos online of her ‘amazing trip to London’, where she had been sightseeing.

In a statement, her family said she was a ‘kind and beautiful woman’ with an ‘unforgettable laugh’ and ‘spontaneous, witty, kind personality’.

She had travelled extensively within Canada and further afield to Mexico, California and England, with her family saying her travelling deepened her desire for life experience and ‘encouraged her love of language’ as she spoke three languages in English, French and Spanish.

She had also been accepted to Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC.

‘Ashley, you are beautiful to us, and we will miss you very, very, much,’ her family said in a statement.
