For the first time in 17 years, biscuits have rolled off the production line at the Okin Biscuits factory in Offa, Kwara State. And for millions of Nigerians, that means one thing—a taste of childhood is finally coming back.

The company announced the milestone on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, confirming that a rehabilitated production line had successfully produced biscuits after nearly two decades of silence. The achievement marks a massive step forward in restoring the beloved iconic snack brand.

But the road back wasn't easy. Over the course of the shutdown, vandals had stolen critical components—electronic parts, frequency drives, factory cables, contactors, and industrial motors. The production line had to be completely rebuilt.

The company clarified that full market commercialisation has not yet resumed. Further testing, rigorous calibration, and complete rehabilitation of the remaining infrastructure are still required. The goal? To ensure that the original, familiar Okin taste and quality are completely perfected before the product officially hits grocery shelves again.

For Nigerians, is the return of a shared heritage.

Okin Biscuits—especially its famous Shortcake, Coaster, and Cabin biscuits—were staples of Nigerian childhoods from the 1980s through the early 2000s. For adults today, the brand represents a simpler, nostalgic era. Social media is already buzzing with celebration as generations look forward to sharing a piece of their childhood heritage with their own children.

The factory's revival also carries deep economic meaning. Reopening a large-scale manufacturing plant creates direct employment for engineers, labourers, and administrative staff, while thousands of indirect jobs will emerge across the supply chain—distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and logistics providers. The Offa community, which felt the economic void of the closure, is finally seeing fresh commerce return.

Originally founded in 1980 by Chief Emmanuel Olatunji Adesoye, Okin Biscuits became a household name across Nigeria. Its return after 17 years is a powerful symbol of national pride and economic resilience. Continue reading in the comments section.

Reusable bag have disadvantages too when misused! It all depends on the location, buying habits and the type of good bought. Whatever the matter, such bags are meant for reuse, and should not be treated like single-use bags. (A message to countries with the single-use plastic bag ban).
