SYNOPSIS
When Detective Jide Lawal was transferred from Lagos to the sleepy town of Ayegbami in Ogun State, he expects a slower pace of life, maybe some land disputes, petty theft, or cult scuffles. But what he finds is a town gripped by fear and unbelievable.

For three years, young girls, aged between 10 and 15—have gone missing one after the other. Eleven in total. Each found seven days later in the bush, lifeless, with scary marks carved into their skin and their mouths stuffed with kola nuts. Despite several investigations, the case remains unsolved, buried under layers of silence, corruption, and spiritual .

The people act like they don't know. The police don't bother investigating and blame it on ritual killers. The politicians pretend it’s not happening. But for Jide as a qualified police officer determined to prove himself and it becomes an obsession.

As he begins to unravel the dark mystery, he stumbles into a twisted corner, sealed with what he knows nothing of, of traditional beliefs, political coverups, and secret cults that control. Every lead takes him closer to a horrifying truth and to a powerful enemy who will stop at nothing to keep Ayegbami’s secrets buried.

Now, with the twelveth girl missing and time running out, Jide must race against the clock before she becomes the next offering in a crime that has festered in silence for far too long. Do you think jide would reveal the crime to the world? Or he will also be a long gone victim like the others?

It’s time you met the woman behind the pen…

Hello again, my people.

You’ve read my stories. You’ve felt my characters. But maybe it’s time you met (or re-met) the voice behind Wura’s Pen.

My name is Awawu Wuraola Tijani Yusuf, but in this creative world, I’m simply known as Wura’s Pen, a writer who finds meaning in moments, healing in words, and magic in storytelling.
I hail from Ibadan, living in lagos, a mother and a wife.

I write non-fictional stories, that people share in order to enlightened the world through there mistakes, choice or decisions.

I also write fiction that feels. Stories that reflect life, love, pain, hope, and everything in between. I’ve written from heartbreak. I’ve written from healing. I’ve written in silence. And now… I write to connect.

Fun Facts about me:

I once cried while writing the ending of one of my own stories. (Yes, writers feel too!)

I love rice and beans with fish stew

I believe characters choose us — not the other way around.

Writing saved me more than once.

Now, I want to hear from you:

What do you want to know about me

Let questions keep dropping.

Title: “Letters to the Ones Who Waited”
Caption: Wura’s Pen writes again…

---

Dear You,

Yes — you. The one who used to read my stories. The one who felt something when my words touched a part of your heart.

I owe you a letter — not out of guilt, but out of gratitude.

I disappeared. Life happened, in ways I couldn’t fully write or explain. The stories paused. The pen fell silent. And honestly… so did I.

I wondered if you noticed. If my absence left even a small space in your reading world. I wondered if the characters I once breathed to life ever whispered your name too.

But even in my silence — I felt your presence.

Not with pressure, but with patience.

You gave me time. You gave me space. And now… I bring you my words again. Scarred, softer, stronger. The pen is back in my hand, and it burns with purpose.

So I ask:

Will you read me again?
Will you walk this road with me once more — one word at a time?

This time, I’m not just telling stories.

I'm bringing you into a new world of characters.

With love,
Wura’s Pen

🌜RAMADAN🌛
CHAPTER EIGHT

The beating continued until she passed out, thinking she was joking, her father shouted her name several times but didn't wake up. Deacon Shola who had been shouting for her release rushed to her and removed her khimar, her mother heard the noise and rushed out of the compound to join the scene including her brother John. They rushed her to the hospital and she was attended to.

After a few hours, the doctor sends both father and mother to his office to enlighten them on the issue of their daughter.

DOCTOR: Sir, I think you act reckless with the way you beat her, what if she gave up and died? If not, I am your family doctor. I would have called the police on you.

ARIA’S FATHER: I am really sorry, you see ehn… ehn… just forgive me sir. I don't know what has come over me.

ARIA’S MOTHER: Don't tell me that nonsense, you want to kill her because she embraced Islam? What's the problem? You have already killed her with emotions, you yelled at her on phone yet she comes home you almost beat her to death! I regretted the day I met you. (She started crying) Were you not the one that told us we serve the same God? When Alhaji Sanusi gave you 500k as his support for your house, you said so. When he gave you a car just because you prayed he wouldn't be involved in an accident while going out a few years back and he escaped an accident just because he was late talking to you on street road development. (Still crying) But when our daughter decided to join that religion, you beat her to a coma! You are a wicked soul !!

DOCTOR: Calm down madam, the issue here is different from what you both are displaying, listen to me. Your daughter is four months pregnant which has been affected by the beating you gave you. (Aria's father cut in)

ARIA'S FATHER: Yeh ! Yeh! Jesu cristi ooo,(he puts his hands over his head, he stands and start sweating profusely, facing Aria's mother) You see your life? The daughter I am proud of in front of Deacon Shola and his wife hoping to make her their son Daniel’s wife now pregnant with the child of no family! Aye mi ooo

DOCTOR: Daddy calm down, at this rate you need to evacuate the remains, if not the baby might not come out well and might also be a threat to your daughter's life. Sign this form and let complete our work on her.(Giving Aria's father a form to sign with a pen. He looked at both the doctor and the form including Aria's mother and walked out of the office, he went to a nurse and requested to see his daughter, the nurse pointed the directions to him and left.)

ARIA'S MOTHER: Doctor, truly I know nothing about her pregnancy but hope this won't affect her womb? Will she be able to get pregnant again? Please let me know her chances. (She started crying again as she saw the doctor shook his head negatively)

DOCTOR: Ma, you see. I can't say that for now, but I assured you nothing will happen to her womb as long as you evacuate the remains on time. The one your husband left without saying a word or signing this (he showed her the form).

ARIA'S MOTHER: Can I sign it on his behalf?

DOCTOR: Let me check on him and your daughter too before making the decision.

They both left the office and went to MUBAROOKAH'S ward. Her father is already in the ward scolding her on how and who got her pregnant when she was supposed to be studying, she refuses to answer until he raises his hand to hit her again when the mother shouted.

ARIA'S MOTHER:(rushed in and held her husband down yelling at him) Don't kill her finally, please! Is it not enough you aborted her pregnancy out of your uncontrollable anger? You will rather kill me today then touch my daughter!(She stat pushing him to the wall while shouting)

DOCTOR: Madam, this is hospital, you are disturbing our patients here, kindly take your sinero home. Aria how are you feeling?

MUBAROOKAH: Doctor, I am now Mubarookah by name, not Aria again. I am fine but still feeling pain in my abdomen.

DOCTOR:(Smiling) well, whatever religion you find yourself, I pray you have peace and what it takes to do well.

MUBAROOKAH: Aameen.

ARIA'S MOTHER: Aria, tell me who impregnates you? Who is responsible for that thing in your stomach?

MUBAROOKAH: (stammering) mum...mum…. It is….. Da… ni…el…

ARIA'S FATHER:(Cuts in angrily) which Daniel?! Tell me, before I bounce on you there! ( He raises his hand again to beat her)

MUBAROOKAH: Daniel, Deacon Shola’s Son (she speaks faster to avoid being hit by her father again)

ARIA'S FATHER: Do you mean Deacon Shola's son Daniel whom I am working on your marriage with?

MUBAROOKAH: Y…ye..yes sir!

ARIA'S MOTHER: (Burst into laughter, she started dancing around the room, mocking her husband) You see your life outside? Gabriel, you see your life outside don't you ? I was telling you to let her choose her husband herself, you kept shouting, Daniel is a God fearing guy, he is cool and knows the word of God just like his parents, he is this and that. See your life now, he took the virginity of your daughter and impregnated her without paying a dime on her or walking her down the aisle . Let me tell you, just sign the paper the doctor told you to sign and wrap this mess up. But don't you know you're pregnant? (She turn to Mubarookah who was lying sadly on the bed)

MUBAROOKAH: I don't know not until the doctor told me few hours ago.( She replied sluggishly)

ARIA'S FATHER: Then how are you sure, it was Daniel who impregnated you? (Still finding it hard to believe)

ARIA'S MOTHER: Believe it or not, it is Daniel. Because I never taught my daughter to be wayward.

ARIA'S FATHER: What's this now? Is she not wayward? Why is she in the ward? (Laughed drastically) See I will call the useless father and son to come and take care of their mess. And for you don't ever return home if you don't want me to skin you alive!(He yelled at Mubarookah and left the room. Her younger brother rushed in with her phone ringing)

JOHN: Sis you've woke up, this number have been calling over and over again now.(He gave the phone to her and walked out of the ward, the doctor also left running after Aria's father. The mother sat at the edge of the bed caressing her legs gently, she checked her phone and saw that Aliyah as called and other sisters too to check on her, Ameer also gave her 5 missed call as she was about to return Aliyah's call, Ameer’s call interrupted)

AMEER: Assalamunalaykum Wa Ramotullah Wa Barokatuhu sister Mubarookah.

MUBAROOKAH: Wa alaykumusalam sir. (She managed to say, her mother watched her with her jaw open wondering how she was able to pronounce those words perfectly, she shook her head and sighed heavily)

AMEER: We are worried about you as you decided not to carry us along with the issue at home. You should've just dropped a message or called Sister Aaliyah to inform her that you got home safely. Hope everything is fine there? (There was silence at Mubarookah's end, she couldn't think of a good response as nothing was fine at home. Not even in the new pregnancy mess she finds herself) Sister Mubarookah! Sister Mubarookah! (AMEER called her name to be sure of who he was talking to, she ended the call and dropped her phone, staring into the empty space in the ward, her mother watched her closely, not sure of which conversation to start, the pregnancy or the new religion.)

Few minutes later, Aliyah's call interrupted the silence in the room.

ALIYAH: Assalamunalaykum Wa Ramotullah Wa Barokatuhu Aria! Oh sorry Mubarookah.

MUBAROOKAH: Wa alaykumusalam, Aliyah is better you call me Aria, because I don't think I can cope with this new religion.

ALIYAH: Why will you say that? Ahudhu bi llahi minna shaitan rajeem. I rebuke it for you. Please don't say that, if there is anything bothering you Bi’ithnillah we will solve it together, remember till jannah is the deal.

MUBAROOKAH: I am pregnant for Daniel, my dad beat me immediately I arrived and tampered with the pregnancy, I have to evacuate the remains but now the issue is he doesn't want me at home and he said he will stop his support on my school.(He burst into tears)

ALIAYAH: Please calm down, there is always a solution to things. I was surprised to hear about your pregnancy, no one knows about it here in school, you don't even tell us.

MUBAROOKAH: I don't know as well, the doctor told me when I was conscious. Please keep it to yourself for now, don't tell anyone.

ALIYAH: Oops, I am with Ameer presently and the phone is on speaker, but this won't leave our midst trust me.

MUBAROOKAH: Oh! Okay.

ALIYAH: I am really sorry, take care dear, and don't forget to send me the address of the hospital so I can check you tomorrow. But don't have the mind of dropping your Deen for anything, Allah is sufficient for you, and I am beside you to walk through this together.

MUBAROOKAH: (smiling) I trust you. Alright I need to go now. Bye. (She ended the call and send a text message to Aliyah she dropped her phone and looked at her mother)

MUBAROOKAH: Are you going to abandon me just like daddy did?

ARIA'S MOTHER:(Looking surprised) Abandon you ke? When I don't have plenty of daughters or a new daughter elsewhere. You are still my daughter regardless of the offense. Please just don't think about anything now. I am beside you just like your friend said, nothing will Chase me from your side except death and I don't pray to die soon.(She spread her palm as she pray)

MUBAROOKAH: Aameen.

(The door opened, Daniel and his father Deacon Shola entered with Aria's father)

ARIA'S MOTHER:(Jumped on her feet immediately she sighted Daniel and held onto his collar) So you're the useless fellow that wants to ruin my daughter's future? You're the Animal that impregnated her?

DEACON SHOLA: Mummy Aria, please leave my son alone, he knows nothing about your daughter's pregnancy! (He shouted at her, Mubarookah who was dozing sit up immediately she heard the statement)

MUBAROOKAH: Well, Daniel cannot deny the fact that he is responsible for the pregnancy!

DANIEL: Of course I can't accept what is not mine, have you forgotten when you follow those terrorists up and down? When I will tell you to stop following those Muslim girls and men but you won't listen now that impregnated you, you want to pin it on me. It can never happen!

ARIA'S FATHER: (laughing drastically) oh oh, but I thought you said your daughter is not a wayward person? I thought you knew her more than I did not knowing she really took after you! Upon all the sermon and prayer I did on you before getting married, you still pass down that devilish gene to my daughter! Who knows if she's truly mine from the on set! Like a mother, like her daughter. (He clapped his hand and walked out of the ward. Aria's mother couldn't say anything that reminds her of her past when she worked in a bar in order to feed her siblings and poor widow mother. She got series of Assault and sexual harassment from customer including the owner of the bar. She can't quit for the fear of starving her family. After few months of Assault and harassment, her friend Linda introduced her to Prostitution, she got paid by customer who need s*e*x services for short term. She attended to them in the toilet, kitchen or balcony at night. The pay from it really helped in sending her siblings to school and established a petty shop for her mother. Linda advises her to take it to the next level by introducing her to big businessmen and politicians. She got a lot of money and started living the luxurious life she had always wanted. Until one day, Linda got a call from a strange man who claimed to get her contact from a friend whom her and Linda had given services to, the offer was huge and this make them go to the said venue, unfortunately they were drugged and carried away to unknown place, she woke up to find herself tied to a big tree in the middle of nowhere. She looked around and saw blood everywhere including the body part of her friend Linda, she wanted to scream but her voice was gone. Few minutes later she saw a man coming from afar, she pretended to be sleeping till the man got to her side, seems like it was her turn to die, the man untied her hand and legs and carried her to the butchering table, he dropped her thinking she was still unconscious, and when into the small hut she couldn't notice was there before, she jumped to her feet and ran into the bush, until she got to a tied main road, she waved down on many bus passing by but non stop dor her until she stop Gabriel's car, being a student pastor, he stopped and carried her, he carefully listen to her story and believe thee Lord want her to repent. He took her through the process of being born again and decided to marry her.) Why would he say that to me in public? (She thought and dropped Daniel's clothes.)

DANIEL: You are joking! Aria I am not responsible for your pregnancy, I never for once touched you. I was even telling my father not to accept your father's request because of your waywardness in school. I was dragged from school to this place because of you. Forget about it. (He said and slammed the door behind him)

DEACON SHOLA: Madam, please don't spread false news around about my son impregnating you daughter, you know that campaign for the overseer pastor is around the corner i wouldn't want any stain on my well built name. (He walked out of the room as well, leaving both mother and daughter crying)

ARIA'S MOTHER: Ah ah (crying) Aria has killed me! Aria has burned me alive!Where should I start from?

MUBAROOKAH: Mum (crying) I am telling the truth, I know no man except Daniel. I can't l…i….e….. (They both continue crying until Mubarookah was carried away to evacuate the remains)

From a chapter in WEDDING GIFT

After Maghrib prayer, Aisha set the dining table and dished out the food she had made. But as she brought the dishes to the table, she noticed something odd. The soup didn’t have the rich aroma she expected. Instead, it smelled faintly spoiled.

Abdullah joined her at the table and took his first swallow. His face contorted in surprise, but he didn’t complain. He finished his meal in silence, while Aisha couldn’t bring herself to eat at all.

"" Aisha, what's wrong," Abdullah asked as if he didn't understand.
"I... Don't know what's wrong with the food" Aisha replied.

"Nothing is wrong with it, try to eat something," Abdullah said gently.

Aisha shook her head. "I can’t, Abdullah. It smells off."

Abdullah sighed and stood up. "Let me get some more soup from the kitchen. Maybe it’s just this serving."

He walked into the kitchen, and a few moments later, Aisha heard him shout. She rushed in to find him bent over the sink, vomiting. "Abdullah, what's wrong?"

He pointed to the pot of soup, his face twisted in disgust. "Look at the soup, Aisha!"

She looked into the pot and gasped. The soup was crawling with living maggots, writhing and squirming in the thick liquid. "Subhanallah," she whispered, horrified.

How did a new cooked soup turn out to full of life maggots?

CHAPTER SEVEN: THE FAMILY WAR

(Everything goes as planned in school, the news flew like a new released song and everyone anywhere kept congratulating her, the other religion members don't really understand her decision as she's not ready to let anyone know why she converted. The fact that she converted still bothered her, as she didn't know what was in stock for her when she got home. Before leaving the campus that day, she had received over 30 pieces of old and new hijab and gown, khimar, Abaya from different brands……. She didn't understand why there were so many gifts at that time. Islam is such a beautiful religion, she thought. She and Aliyah got into her room and sorted out the good and bad clothes, she turned the ones she can't wear outside into rags, she refused to give them to Motola as she kept requesting them. They both advise her to also take a leap into it and try it out. But she insisted on doing it when she pleased. After all the new set of clothes, she packed her mini bag and decided to let her family know on time. She left the school promising to come back 2 days after.)

MUBAROOKAH: (walking towards the school gate, smiling at everyone who greeted her on her new found religion when her boyfriend walked towards her and Aliyah.)

DANIEL: Hey, hey you there, (he ran towards Mubarookah, he looked at her from head to toe in her khimar and burst into sarcastic laughter, for the first time that day she felt humiliated) oh no! Come off it baby. Don't tell me this is how you will be dressing now? Enh (Mubarookah feeling too ashamed of herself to look him in the eye.) no now, didn't i warn you to stop following these girls around?(Pointing to Aliyah) They will put viruses in your brain, but you said no, haven't they succeeded?

MUBAROOKAH: you're the viruses in my brain, and I have wiped them off. So get out of my sight. (She managed to yelled)

DANIEL: ahhh, where is the sex*y Aria baby that I know? Where is my one and only? You see this joke or prank abi content you're making, you better stop them or else(he raised his hand to slap her but his hand was held by someone from behind)

“YOU DARE NOT” A strong man's voice replied. They all looked up and saw Ameer holding Daniel's hand. He struggled to free his hand but couldn't.

DANIEL: (yelling )Mr man, leave my hand and face where you're going.

AMEER: And why should I?

DANIEL: Because I am dealing with my girlfriend!

AMEER: (laughing) were you not aware? That she's no longer on the same page with you. Better move on and find your type.

DANIEL: And who are you to tell me that? Who are you to interf in my relationship?

MUBAROOKAH: Daniel, listen. It might sound strange and hard to believe, to hurt to move on but trust me, I did these to save us both from the punishment of the hell, I haven't learn much but with the little I understand, the relationship between us is forbidden, we are not meant to have it in the first place. If you as the deputy school deacon and me as a choir leader are engaging in this relationship where no one fear what will come after then I don't think you suit me. Even if I am the one bringing it up, you should try to hold me down and wait till marriage. I can't continue anymore, this relationship has ended, just like a plane that took off its flight already. I hope you understand me and not hold grudges against my friends. We've been friends since year one and this is our fourth year together as friends. I haven't learned much because we decided not to interfere in our lifestyle. But now, it is as if blessings have found me and I am not ready to let go, not even in my last breath.

DANIEL: (Looking like a dummy) So …. So…. (Stammering) What will happen to our plan? Our plan of us getting married? Of us opening a church together? Of us naming our children after us? Of us going to …….(He burst into tears and knelt in front of Mubarookah. He wept bitterly like a baby denied breast milk. He tried holding her hand but she gently snapped her back. ) I think I am dreaming, (he rolled on the floor as he watched Mubarookah, Aliyah and Ameer walked away.)
ARIAAAAAAAAAAAAA (he shouted and continue crying)

ALIAYAH: (looking at Mubarookah’s face, she can tell she's crying silently) I know this is the hardest decision you've ever made in your life and I am promising you this will be the best decision and you're glad you did.

AMEER: That's really brave of you sister Mubarookah, and I am glad you ain't shaken by his words. Please no matter the circumstances do not despair as Allah has better plans for you. I heard you're going home to inform your parents when I brought this prayer mat and Mus’haf (Qur'an ) to your hostel.

MUBAROOKAH: Yes sir, thanks a lot, I will be back in two days by God's will. And what's Mis’haf?

AMEER:(Smiling) it is the holy book, Al Qur'an) this is the English version and it will be easier for you to understand than the Arabic one.

ALIYAH: Hope you will join the class I told you about when you're back?

MUBAROOKAH: Of course I will. (She collected the mat and Qur'an from Ameer as they reach the entrance of the school, she bid them goodbye and board a bus going to iyana iba)

ALIYAH: Alhamdulillah, I am glad I changed to make someone change.

AMEER: And what does that mean?

ALIYAH: I cut off my relationship with Habeebullah, Aria got annoyed and asked me why, i have to explain everything to her, despite knowing it is Haram. I engaged myself in it but now I have decided to repent for good. Alhamdulillah, I repent and win a soul.

AMEER: Alhamdulillah you did. Barokallahufeekum. Can I have Sister Mubarookah's Contact in case I need to check on her. I hope her parents take it easy with her.

ALIAYAH: That's my concern too. Her dad is a Deacon in the church. It won't be funny to see her in such cloth not to talk of becoming a Muslim. (She gave him the contact and chatted more before parting ways)

Mubarookah couldn't think of any other thing again aside from how to confront her parents and stand her ground, she thinks of a solution if they plan on disowning her, or stop supporting her education. She thought of the wedding plan she had with her mother immediately after her convocation, she thought about many things and burst Into tears silently. Hopefully she didn't encounter such problems with her prayer. Her phone rang and it was her mother, she picked up and heard her screaming)

MUBAROOKAH'S MOTHER: Don't tell me all that I heard is true? Don't tell me you've started wearing the black dress? Don't tell me you have joined the gang of dirty looks with awful smell? Don't tell me you have joined this meeting until havean(ipade di Sunnah)? (She burst into tears.

MUBAROOKAH: Mummy stop now, why are you shouting at me? What's really wrong?

MUBAROOKAH'S MOTHER: Daniel has called me and narrated all the stunts you're pulling. If you think you will bring that masquerade dress to my house forget it, I will Chase you with Cutlass you useless daughter of jazebel, get lost from my phone.( She yelled and ended the call , Mubarookah burst into tears once again. She had a better way to let them know about it but Daniel for his selfish interest went ahead to destroy her. She decided to go home like that and face whatever will happen. After more minutes of driving, she alighted and boarded a bike straight to their house, her father was outside their compound with one of the Deacon from the church. “Plan go wrong” she thought she walked towards them and greeted her father, he answered before knowing it was her. )

MUBAROOKAH'S FATHER: (Trying to recognize who she is) excuse me ma, is this Aria or someone else? If I am not mistaken.

MUBAROOKAH: (shyly) it is me sir, I am Aria. I converted to Islam this morning and I changed my name to Mubarookah which means blessings.

MUBAROOKAH'S FATHER: Deacon shola please for a minute, this girl must be pulling a prank on me . (Dragging her by her khimar) Come her and tell me it's a prank, where is your camera man? (Looking around to see if someone is filming secretly.)

MUBAROOKAH: That's the truth sir, and I have broken up with Daniel sir. Tell Deacon shola that our wedding is not taking place again… (Before she could finish her statement, her father landed two hot slap on her cheek and pulled the khimar off her head, she rolled on the floor pleading but her father continued to beat her until she passed out.)

We well continue tomorrow...
