SPECIAL CONVOCATION THANKSGIVING SERVICE

1 Samuel 7: 12: *"Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us."*

After months of planning, weeks of preparations and days of actual rigorous but exciting Convocation events - from the Press Conference on Wednesday, 12th to the Award of Doctorate Degrees and Honorary Doctorate Degrees on Wednesday 19th August 2026- the LASU community can look back today, Sunday, 25th August 2026, and say, "Ebenezer".

The Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello mni, NPOM leads other members of the University Management and the entire LASU community to the Convocation Ceremonies *Special Thanksgiving Service* at the LASU Chapel of Light, Main Campus, Ojo to round-off the 29th and 30th combined Convocation Ceremonies.

🎓✨ LASU 29th & 30th CONVOCATION: A CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE, IMPACT & NEW POSSIBILITIES!

The combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies of Lagos State University have come to a remarkable close, celebrating 20,604 graduates across the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions, including an outstanding 494 first-class graduates. 🎓👏🏽

A major highlight was the historic commitment by Africa’s foremost industrialist, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCON, who pledged ₦600 million towards the construction of a female students’ hostel and announced employment opportunities for outstanding first-class graduates in Engineering and Sciences after their NYSC programme. 👏🏽

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu also rewarded academic excellence with ₦20 million each for the two best graduating students, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to education, infrastructure and human-capital development at LASU.

From improved student accommodation and major infrastructure projects to research, innovation, accreditation, global partnerships and the historic hosting of a convocation at the Epe Campus, LASU continues to demonstrate why it remains one of Nigeria’s leading universities.

The ceremony also celebrated distinguished personalities who received honorary doctorates, the conferment of a doctorate on the University’s Chancellor, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, and the elevation of Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello and Professor Rafiu Olaoluwa Okuneye to the rank of Distinguished Professor.

As we celebrate our graduates, we celebrate the parents, lecturers, staff, sponsors and everyone who contributed to this remarkable journey.

For the first time ever, the Lagos State University 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies will feature a STAFF CELEBRATION DAY — a special event dedicated to celebrating the commitment, unity and excellence of members of staff.

The event will take place as follows:
Date: Thursday, 13th August 2026

Time: 2:00 p.m.

Venue: Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo

Event Highlights:
• Cultural Parade in Colourful Traditional Attire by Individual Staff

• Music and Dance Performances by Socio-Cultural Groups and State Associations

• *Presentation of Staff Gold Awards to Outstanding Members of Staff*

All academic and non-teaching members of staff are to come dressed in their individual traditional attire and be part of this historic celebration.

29TH AND 30TH CONVOCATION CEREMONIES: LASU TO HOLD CONVOCATION JUM’AT SERVICE

The Management of Lagos State University (LASU) hereby invites the University community, Muslim faithful, and members of the general public to the Convocation Jum’at Service, in commemoration of the 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies.

The details of the service are as follows:

Date: Friday, 14th August 2026

Time: 1:00 p.m. prompt

Venue: University Central Mosque, Lagos State University, Main Campus, Ojo

The Convocation Jum’at Service is one of the spiritual activities lined up for the 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled to take place from Wednesday, 12th to Sunday, 23rd August 2026.
