Speaking at the just concluded National Woman Leader press briefing held in Abuja on REPOSITIONING WOMEN IN AGRICULTURE FOR FOOD SECURITY AND EMPOWERMENT.
The just appointed Southwest, Southeast and South South Head of Women in Agric Ms Omolara Svensson pointed out that enhancing women's role in agriculture extends beyond boosting food production to tackling gender inequality and discrimination.
Highlighting the unwavering passion and commitment of women in agriculture and agribusiness, it is suggested that Mr President meets with women farmers to explore profound ways of engaging, collaborating, and empowering them. This approach is vital for realizing the State of Emergency declared in the agricultural sector, aiming to feed over 200 million mouths. “Please, Mr President ask the Bank of Agriculture, the Minister of Agriculture, Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending, NIRSAL Plc Central Bank of Nigeria, encourage the African Development Bank, AfDB, World Bank, International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, and others to directly work with All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Women Chapter
Empowering women in agriculture extends beyond enhancing food production; it involves tackling broader challenges of gender equality and discrimination.
Recognizing the prevailing lack of voice for women in decision-making and policy, plays a pivotal role in the fight against hunger and poverty.
Speaking on her new appointment she said "I pledge unwavering support to assist women nationwide in unlocking their agricultural potential, ensuring opportunities for food sufficiency.
"Our initiatives encompass hosting symposiums for women's training and establishing cooperative societies for micro-credit, mentorship, farm inputs, and access to local and international markets
