The Hira Company is looking for an experienced advocacy, development communications, or stakeholder engagement professional to support the rollout of a high-impact animated series on maternal healthcare.

Using culturally grounded storytelling, the project seeks to drive informed conversations around maternal health, healthcare access, and policy solutions in Nigeria. This is a strategic relationship-building role. You'll work directly with civil society organisations, medical bodies, development partners, professional associations, and policymakers to build partnerships, facilitate dialogue, and expand the project's reach and impact.

We're looking for someone with:
• 3+ years of experience in advocacy, development communications, public affairs, or stakeholder engagement
• Strong knowledge of Nigeria's public health, development, or policy landscape
• Experience engaging senior stakeholders and institutional partners
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills

Amaka thought it was just stress.
Lagos traffic, long days, no real rest, the dull pain in her stomach didn’t seem like something serious. Until it didn’t go away.

By evening, she was in a hospital bed.
The doctor spoke carefully. “Madam… this pregnancy is not progressing well. It’s already affecting your body. If it continues, it can become life-threatening.”

Amaka’s voice was quiet. “So what do we do?”

“There is a procedure to stabilise you,” he said. “But… these situations can be legally sensitive.”

Her husband frowned. “You just said her life is at risk.”
The doctor nodded. “Yes. But we have to be careful.”

Careful.
By the next day, the pain had worsened.
Her phone kept buzzing.
“Just pray.”
“Don’t rush.”
“Women survive these things.”

But her body wasn’t waiting.
When the doctor returned, his tone had changed. “Your condition is getting worse. We may need to act soon.”
Amaka looked at him. “Then let’s act.”
He hesitated. “If it becomes more critical, it is clearer—for everyone involved.”
It clicked.
She let out a dry laugh. “So I should wait until I’m almost dying before it’s clear I need help?”
Silence.
By the third day, she could barely sit up.
Her husband held her hand. “What do you want to do?”
Amaka stared at the consent form, then at him.
“I don’t want to die because we were waiting,” she said. “My life shouldn’t depend on hesitation.”
Then she looked ahead, as if speaking to you.
“If you were me… what would you do?”
This is a fictional story, but the situation is real.
When care is delayed by uncertainty, the cost can be a life.
