I was scrolling through WhatsApp status that day when I saw an update from one of the coaches I respect on this space.
It was about a group from a lady he said was his friend who has made six figures from her online business. He shared a screenshot of the ladyâs last withdrawal which was actually in six figures.
Now the lady was ready to share how she earns her money and coach those that are interested to earn like her as well.
I joined the group to know more about the business.
The business model was something like, register with a certain amount, perform your daily tasks to earn a given amount daily, and withdraw once a month when youâve accumulated a particular amount. Then invite downlines to earn a given bonus and withdraw the bonus twice in a week.
Whether you invite anyone or not, youâll still earn and withdraw your earnings.
According to her, she knows the owner of the business model and the one he built last year, he paid both invitation bonuses and daily tasks earnings for those that didnât invite anybody.
To register an account was 5k and that was something I could afford loosing so I registered. For me, If it turns out well, good. If it goes sour, I move on. Let it not be like that particular Coach that I respect shared an update and I bypassed it.
Of course I wasnât ready to invite people. So on the days I remembered, I logged into the site and carried out the tasks and faced my front. Some other days, I totally forgot about them so the earnings for those days were lost.
The date for the first withdrawal came and I miscalculated the timeframe given for it and by the time I remembered, the withdrawal portal had closed for that month.
Now, to make payment to those that withdrew, took like 7 days and the minimum accumulated points for withdrawal which was 35k was slashed down to 8k at payment.
To sap the 8k that was paid from gullible persons, they quickly introduced another plan âRuby packageâ where those that register can earn more daily and the registration fee was #7,500.
At this, Iâd confirmed my fear but half bread is better than none, they say. So I waited patiently for next withdrawal date so I can pull out my registration money and whatever they put on top and find my exit route.
Two days to next withdrawal date, information was put up on the platform which stated that to be eligible for withdrawal, members must have registered two active users under them.
By now, I reached out to the lady who was supposed to coach us until we make six figures like her and she couldnât give a reasonable explanation. She was also claiming to be a victim.
So I waited for withdrawal date, place my withdrawal still and confirmed that there was no payment. Then I exited the group, deleted it and deleted the business site from my phone and moved on.
About two weeks later, the lady chatted me up in my DM because I also exited her coaching group and she was introducing another so called business to me.
At this point, I reminded her about the 5k I peacefully dashed her and her other business and told her that I was done with any thing business that has a slight appearance of Ponzi in it. And I meant that.
By then, I was building my tech career with volunteer jobs while also looking for paid internship or a paid job that wouldnât be too time consuming.
I placed different applications and found a paid volunteer job as well as a hybrid full time job.
From experience, I can tell you that Ponzi schemes are addictive, I didnât become addicted but Iâve seen people who are. To them, itâs risky but itâs a quick way to make money. But Iâll advise anyone thatâs into it to quit and learn a digital skill.
The paid volunteer job and full time job I mentioned were gotten with my knowledge and certificate as a digital marketer. With my skills, I can comfortably earn in six figures and more monthly without ripping anyone of their hard earned money.
