DAY 20 COUNTDOWN TO 13TH AUGUST, 2024, MY 36TH BIRTHDAY
"BRING ME PARCHMENT..."
I grew up to love the book.
As soon as I could walk and talk , I grew fond of the bookshelves of my Dad, Ademiluyi Isola .
Stocking works of Shakespeare, Charles Dickens as well as the African Writers' Series. This is in addition to the regular issues of Newswatch , African Concord , ThisWeek ,then later came TELL, TheNews among others.
I began to write early as I read. I wanted to be a writer and nothing more.
Then a career day conjungation to act as a Journalist added to my dreams not only to be a writer but also a journalist.
As I devoured columns of Dele Giwa, I grew fond of him and count myself a journalist 😆
Despite the fact that I went on to read Law at Obafemi-Awolowo UniversityIfe on the advice of my Dad, my first love, Literature and Journalism drew me more.
I went on to edit a number of staples at Great Ife, from THE JURY at the Faculty of Law to THE EAGLE, the campus newspaper.
I was to earn my bruises in the battle of the pen for Truth.
I was unlawfully and informally impeded from proceeding to the Law School for my role as Editor-in-chief of THE EAGLE which exposed the rotten underbelly of the sleaze of University funds taking place under Professor Michael Faborode -led administration.
Left in limbo , after working as a Paralegal in a law firm for a year, I returned to my first love , Literature through a fresh course in Classical Literature at the University of Ibadan. I was to also work as a Sub-Editor in a publishing firm at Ibadan.
Despite being launched into a legal career from 2014 onwards, I have always kept faith with the Muse.
I act as Curator of BooksFeast , a Book promotion outfit and Similia Literary Initiative , a literary agency.
Last year, I launched a publishing outfit, Sawaba Publishing .
As another year dawns, we look forward to hosting the Premier edition of the Ife Books and Arts' Festival in 2025.
Like Paul the Apostle in the Bible ,
