FBI Case File: Rufai Oseni blasts Primate Ayodele over his recent warning to President Tinubu
Journalist Rufai Oseni has strongly criticised Primate Elijah Ayodele over the cleric’s recent warning to President Bola Tinubu concerning the possible release of FBI documents relating to an alleged U.S. drug investigation.
According to reports from September 1, 2026, Ayodele had advised Tinubu to take steps to prevent the release of the documents, warning that the issue could have serious political consequences for the president.
Ayodele who was captured on video suggested that Tinubu should act fast to prevent the FBI-related documents from being released because of the potential political consequences.
Rufai’s response was particularly blunt. During a discussion on Arise TV, he questioned why a religious leader would advise a president to prevent the disclosure of records concerning his past. He argued that, rather than trying to suppress the documents, Tinubu should welcome their release and use them to clear his name if there is nothing incriminating in them.
"Tinubu should champion the release of the documents to clear the air, rather than trying to stop their publication", he said.
According to the journalist, “For the interest of sincerity, it is best that he is even the one not getting lawyers to be able to quash the process, but championing it to say, okay, release whatever they have of me so that I’ll be able to show to the world that it is not what a lot of people think.”
Rufai also questioned Ayodele’s advice that the documents should be stopped, repeatedly asking, “Which kind of shepherd is he? Who is he when I am talking?”
He questioned the morality of advising a national leader to conceal or suppress information about his past.
He continued, “Which kind of shepherd tells people to hide their past when it concerns a nation? Is that one a shepherd? Which kind of shepherd is saying somebody should do everything to quash a case when integrity has Is that one a shepherd? With everything he has said, will you make him a shepherd over your life?”
“Whatever President Tinubu does rubs off on all of us,” he said, adding that people could make side jokes about Nigerians because of the allegations surrounding their president.
Rufai maintained that the issue goes beyond Tinubu, stressing that he was speaking about the morality of a nation and the strength of a nation.
