Sometimes last year, there is need for journeymen to work on these two buildings. And a friend from Facebook that I haven’t even seen referred me to the person and I was called.

I joined the group of people working the projects.

After six days on the job, the head of cleaner that took the cleaning of one of the two buildings whom I’m sure had come about few days earlier, came around again and came to meet me where I was working and asked me which tribe I belonged to.

I told him that I’m a Yoruba man.

And then he said that, since he’d been in his field, Yoruba guys that is enduring on a job like that is rare.

He explained further that, some Yoruba men he’d met on site, after they worked for like two to three days, they’ll run away in order to go and spend the money they made.

And then after few days of staying broke, they start to look for work to do again, and repeated the same pattern.

But I didn’t. Having been there for the past few days and he’s sure that I’ll see the job through.

And indeed, I saw the job through.

Worked in both buildings simultaneously.

What he stated is true to a fault, though.

My heart broke when I saw the poster during the candle light held for him. And in my heart, I felt like the woman was responsible for it..

Last week Wednesday, I was helping a young guy close to my house to paint his newly rented shop.

He told me about what he wanted to use the shop for; for dry cleaning business.

He said that he doesn’t have much and that the rent is already reading.

I took pity on him and decided to do the painting for him.

I told him that I’d collect half the workmanship charged and that he should pay the rest later at his convenience.

While working, I noticed a woman and a middle aged man who appears to be an Okada rider playing, joking and cussing.

You know the kind of women that are very lousy and can play for Africa?

She joked about many things from drawing the man’s pim pim and using it to drag him around, to how his village people was behind his inability to pay her the money he’s owing her.

Then she threw the bomb. In her words, she told the man “abi e fe ku k’eto dele ni?” Which is interpreted as “do you want to die before you get home?”

At that stage, I wanted to shush the woman that that curse is too expensive for a joke.

I was told that the man had an accident later that day and was rushed to the hospital where he died two days later.

Words are very powerful, speak life changing words always.

My name is Adesina Abiodun Emmanuel and I have no degree to my name except an O’level that’s not even leveled.

I was there in the bus that morning thinking about how much I've wasted on transportation to Chevron and the guy I was supposed to go and work with wouldn't pick up my calls after calling him few minutes earlier when I was at Sand Fill.

As I've called severally and he wouldn't pick up and I've been there for over two hours, I decided to held back home.

Little did I know that what was bothering me is minimal compared to the young man seated beside me.

When I noticed how restless and angry, he was, I asked what the matter was.

"...I wonder why some people go through so much pain in life only to end up in 600 years of premium tears.

It's my fiance's birthday today and she ruined it.

For few days now, I've been working on how to surprise her and make her day.

I've already put some things in place, things I could manage at the moment.

I was to propose to her today, too.

And that was to be accompanied by a little note, or poem, whatever they call it.

Everyone; family, friends were gathered and things was going on smoothly.

The big moment arrived. I was to read the poem from heart.

I've lost a few lines and I went into her room to pick up my phone to memorize again.

She met me halfway to the living room, soliloquizing, as the birthday was a parlor party.

She got furious about whom I was telling all the sweet things I was saying while looking at my phone.

She didn't allow me to explain before she took my phone and smashed it.

One of her friends got hold of what's left to be seen on it and read thus:

' Can I write O lady
About the smile on your cheeks
Plus the dimple,
That brings men from trance
And twirls the beards of youths,
In the glittering darkness of your talkative skin,
While empires surrender their birthrights

Can I plant in that heart
Secrets held within for years
To bring forth the fruit of love;
Love that lasts for a lifetime.

My heart is stronger now, because you’re in it;

I was your disease,
But you were my cure;
I was killing you,
But you were saving me.

Since it hurts when you have someone in your heart, but you can't have them in your arms,
That's why I'm asking you this moment if you'll marry me
And be with me even from now till forever? '

At this moment, the ring in my hand fell. "

I wonder why some people go through so much stress in life just to be heartbroken, truly.

If you've never considered going to the village a su***de mission, either you're not a Nigerian or you're still living in the village.

Have you ever given a thought on that?

About the believe that there's always a horror behind every visit to the village?

We believed that everyone who lives in the village become toxic to you from the moment you left them for town.

Especially if your one time visit resulted in some bad lucks after we got back to town.

I've heard several stories about people who left the village for town either since childhood or when they come of age, and when they deem it fit to visit the village; either they died in the village, or were involved in an accident on their way back to town, or things wouldn't work out fine for them when they returned.

Such was the story I heard of in a bus one morning just before the outbreak of Covid-19.

A particular lady that her father died traveled home for her father's burial.

She was the first born and amidst tight work schedule, she must be present.

To pay the man who'd sacrificed so much for her a last respect.

And she did so.

Seven days after the burial, she decided to take her leave as they didn't give her more than a week from where she works.

She works in a bank in Lagos.

But her people told her that she'll have to stay till after forty-one days, being the first born.

And she agreed after much persuasion.

She died on the seventeenth day of her stay.

Who do we offend in this matter of going to the village been that that's where your ancestors originated from?

Who do we blame for her death?

Her village people right?

Even though her death comes naturally, those are the people we'd still put the blame on.

The fact that she died in the village, then her village people would be blamed.

A person doesn’t know true hurt and suffering until they’ve felt the pain of falling in love with someone whose affections lie elsewhere.

Sandra and I met in 400L.

A phone was lost and love was found in return. At least, so I thought.

I waited for the owner to call, but not until later that night.

She was so happy she got it back as it contains several vital documents.

We exchanged numbers and from that day, we became very close.

I helped her with practically almost everything; assignments more.

Our relationship continued even after we finished from University.

Sometimes, she visits me at my parent's house and do the laundry, cook and my parents already grew interest in her.

"Such a good girl," they'll comment.

We were called up for service and luckily for me, we were posted to the same State.

Meaning that I'll get to see more of the woman whose love I breathe.

Shortly after we begin service, I noticed that she always go out of the room to receive some calls.

I didn't mind though.

But then, she'll come back to tell me it's some guy that was disturbing her about taking interest in her.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Loving someone should have been a beautiful thing. It’s not supposed to destroy people.

Then Covid-19 comes and we barely see.

It got even worse as the only text message I get all day is from my cellphone network company.

Human relationships are strange. I mean, you are with one person for a while, eating and sleeping and living with them, loving them, talking to them and going places together, and then it stops.

And next week Thursday, she'll be married for life to the guy whom she always told me was just a friend.

"No injury is deeper than insult."

Love always leaves a mark.

SLEEPING WITH HIM, PRAYING WITH ME

You wouldn't have guessed wrong that the way Sharon holds the microphone during service in church while singing was the reason why I collected her number.

It's been a while I lost my last relationship and there's need for me to move on as age is not on my side.

We became so close that we meet almost every chance we've got as I like her vibes.

Though the rules of the church forbids that a brother and sister meets in a closed environment except an open space unless they're married, but we ignored it anyway.

After a few hangouts together, she finally accepted to come over to my house.

It was a weekend.

I took my time to prepare a delicious meal for her and she loved it.

You know as a man that blood runs through his vein, I tried to have ses with her but she declined.

She told me that we're supposed to be praying instead of thinking about ses.

And after multiple failed attempts, I gave up on the thought of having ses with her and just want to push the relationship forward.

Since then, we engaged in prayers whenever she comes around.

*******************************************************

Lekan and I were good church buddies.

We got to know each other through an altar call in the church for those who wants to join the church workforce.

And we both joined IT/technical department.

It happened that I was scrolling through my facebook notifications one day he came around when his face caught Sharon's picture.

He told me to scroll down just to be sure of who he sees.

I did as instructed and what happens next broke my heart.

"Bro, you need to see how this girl holds mic." He said.

"Yes, she sings well," I replied. Naive to what he really meant.

"No, not that kind of microphone. You should understand na." He replied.

At this level, the water in my body are beginning to mix with blood to form a chain of reactions that science don't have a name for.

Then he went ahead to tell me how they meet practically almost everytime to have ses.

I recalled like four to five times she'll be at my place and a call would come through to her phone and she'll give an excuse and left.

Other times, it'll be a funny sounds over the background when I called her and I wouldn't have been done talking before she says she'll call back and then hung up on me.

It finally dawned on me that the woman who's been praying with me, was having ses with my friend.

Now I understand why they say that "life is not balanced".

" My affair with Biola was like a dagger stabbed in a child's chest for asking for milk, just milk;

The day he told me that I'm just like a sister to him.

And the rabbit's impolite affair across our zone signalled a crack into our internet of universal love.

I met Biola while I was dating my ex.

He lived not very far from me.

So, that makes us to see often.

My ex and I has been dating for about three years.

And for the record, I'd say that he's my all-time best.

But things got complicated and we could no longer work it out.

No, let me correct that, I could no longer take what was happening.

Sometimes at night when my ex was with me and Biola's call came through, I'd leave him to go and meet him and we talk for hours.

I was beginning to like him for who he is.

But he made me realize that not all shoulders can be cried upon.

As some shoulders are just there to receive your tears solely because they're hot and therefore needs your tears to cool themselves down.

I couldn't say whether he manipulated himself through me or I let him.

One night, I told my ex to go and try someone else while I do the same too.

Later that night, I met Biola and he noticed that I was sad.

He requested that I tell him what went wrong and I was all in tears.

He kissed me inbetween my words and I couldn't resist him because I pictured my ex before me.

And ever since, he crested his love mark in me.

But sooner than later did he start to f**k up.

I was enduring until I gained admission that year.

He was in school then, too.

And countless times he wouldn't pick my calls or rather pick to tell me that he'd call back only for him not to.

I was still enduring until one day when I called him and he told me that I shouldn't disturb him because he's with his girlfriend.

My soul welds blistering fire that day

My friends also spoke with him to enquire what the matter was, and he told them that, " I was just like a sister to him."

Every cosmic station within me met my candles awake.

How can one be a sister to whom one fell in love with? "

Whenever you get to the top, do not forget to raise a glass to who helped you get there.

" WHATEVER YOU CANNOT DO FOR FREE, IS NOT YOUR PASSION. "

If you can read this till the very end, believe me, it'll move that your business forward.

I never knew the meaning of that statement until later on.

Before you get lost, I'M A PAINTER and DESIGNER.

I moved to this part of the State few years ago.

Though I couldn't get customers all of a sudden, but I must leave a mark for people to know what I do.

You know the MISTAKE most artisans make? It is the MISTAKE OF GIVING VALUE IN ACCORDANCE TO REMUNERATION.

What do I mean? Keep reading.

In my area, I decided to paint for people; some for free, while others half the price.

If I do a straight painting (without design), there is a certain amount of money I charged for that, and for a painting with design, there is a certain amount I charged as well (though it varies from people I know personally to outsiders).

Then there's this man I was introduced to by one of those I painted for for free.

" IF YOU KNOW YOU CANNOT GIVE VALUE TO A JOB BECAUSE IT DOESN'T PAY YOU, JUST WALK AWAY WITH YOUR HEAD HELD HIGH."

I was supposed to collect 5k, but the man says he's going to pay 3k.

Well, since it wouldn't take me more than a day, I took it.

I could have walked away because the money doesn't pay me, and in the same vein I can decide not to do a good job. Those are my choices to make.

I finished the job around 8pm in the evening.

I had to give my best to correct the errors in the room, such as filling the open spaces in the ceiling, holes on the walls and many more.

And the painful part is that, the man sent me 2k instead of the agreed 3k through the guy who referred me to him since he's the intermediary between the both of us.

And for the next two month, I never heard from him.

I don't have his number to call, and I don't know if he has mine as we both communicated through the young man who referred me to him.

Then one afternoon, I received a phone call from a man to come and meet him just few bus stop to my house.

I climbed a bike, and on getting there, it was this man who owed me a balance of 1,000 months ago.

He took me in his car and we went to his apartment (though rented).

He asked me to give a quotation of the three bedroom apartment he's moving into from the room and parlor self-contained up the building.

I gave the initial prices to materials without adding a dime.

" SOMETIMES, A LITTLE SINCERITY IS WHAT YOUR NEED TO LAND YOURSELF THAT CONTRACT."

Weeks later, he called me to come over so that we go and get the materials and we start the next day.

On our way, he told me about three other professional painters that he called whom added money to the materials because they thought he didn't know how much they're sold.

The truth is, they might do a better job than me, and also charged lesser, but because they're not sincere, they lost the job to me.

And before I embarked on the job, the owner of the house who had two shops she uses for fashion design asked if I could paint her shop.

Just straight painting, I charged 7k. And I did that in one day.

Before I finished the man's job, the room and parlor self-contained he parked from was already let out to someone else.

I was given the painting and I collected 8k for that job.

Seeing how well his job was done and was satisfied, he had to give me extra 3k.

Few months later, I went to paint one room and parlor self-contained for someone he referred me to and I delivered there too. That man also gave me extra money aside from the initial charge.

And before Christmas last year, I received a call from one Alhaja.

I went to meet with her and she was the woman who owns the house that man stayed in whom I painted shops for.

She wants to paint her own house - a four bedroom bungalow (both interior and exterior).

Look at how one ATTITUDE TO WORK - giving value even to a free job I collected no dime from fetches me connection.

Not only that, SINCERITY also plays a part.

Had I not been sincere with that man, he wouldn't have referred me to the others he referred me to.

When you finally get to the top, never forget to raise a glass to those who helped you get there.

WHOSE ANGEL ARE YOU?

There is always something attached to giving.

Without knowing, you receive so much in turn.

I once shared a story where I requested for a 5k giveaway on facebook to be given to a single mother in my area.

Two nights after, I slept in the evening and woke up late around nine.

I was very hungry and had only two hundred naira ( #200) in my pocket.

I decided to skip food that night and spend the money the next morning.

I had no hope anywhere for money or food, so I planned that I'll wait till around two in the afternoon the next day before I spend that money.

As I was pondering in my heart, I heard a knock on my door.

I went to see who could be there as I don't have much friends that I could talk about that one of them would come to see me at night.

Behold, it was the daughter of this woman.

She brought food from her mother for me.

She was my angel sent to me that night.

Often are times we could have been someone's angel but we think that the little we had is all we would manage with forgetting that if we give out from it, doors will open for us where we don't expect.

Sometimes in life when we're at our lowest, that means that got us out of that situation: the music or message you listened to, that friend that helped you out in kind or cash, whichever way you escaped that moment, that is your angel.

Now think about it, how many people have you helped in this lockdown?

Or you are still thinking that that 5k in that account is what you'll manage till you're able to lay your hands on more cash.

Discard that thought and help someone. You don't know how much you're doing as an angel.

Whenever you get to the top, don't forget to raise a glass to those who helped you get there.

Someone needs to hear this before another su***de is committed out there.

You don't need/have to be alone when you're sad or at your lowest in life.

Especially when you're emotionally disturbed, you need not to isolate yourself.

This is the moment you need friends. Your being around friends helps you to ignore all that depression brings your way.

Depression as it is begins from your mind and once it gets to your head, that is the end.

Talk to people that matters, people that won't just preach to you the word of God, but challenge you to keep living.

In this period, never listen to soul music as it triggers memories. Trust me, you don't want to listen to some of Johnny Drille, Westlife, Owl City, Daniel Bedingfield, even Kiss Daniel and other soul artist's songs at this moment.

I pray that every broken heart be mended by Christ Jesus.

Amen.
