1/ The Nigerian Rap scene has been experiencing a huge decline in the past few years. Artists are moving to other genres, and fans are losing interest.

2/ In the late 90s and early 2000s, rap artists such as Mode Nine, Ruggedman, Eedris Abdulkareem, Dagrin, and M.I were immensely popular.

3/ However, in recent years, new artist have emerged on the scene with their own unique sounds, often blending afrobeat and hip-hop.
This has caused rap music to take more of a backseat.

4/ Nigerian rap is also seen as too commercialized, with most artist chasing after single success rather than creating a body of work that can stand the test of time.

5/ It's been argued that the current crop of Nigerian rappers lack lyrical ingenuity & offer little innovation to make their songs stand out.

6/ Many of the current rappers are seen as generic, thus leading to a decline in quality & interest from fans who crave something novel & different.

7/ Despite this, there are still some rappers who have been making waves, such as Falz, Vector, M.I Abaga, Olamide Yung6ix, Blaqbonez Reminisce and other established artists who have been in the game for years.

8/ While rap may be seen as ‘dead’ in Nigeria, there are still some rappers who continue to produce quality music for their fanbase.

9/ These artists continue to produce creative music that resonates with their listeners and brings about a unique flavor to the genre.
