*UTI = Urinary Tract Infection*
It’s that burning, frequent urge to p*e that nobody wants 😩 Here’s the breakdown:
# # # *WHAT CAUSES UTI?*
1. *Bacteria* - Most common cause. _E.coli_ from the gut gets into the urethra. That’s why hygiene matters a lot.
2. *Poor hygiene* - Wiping back to front, holding p*e too long, not cleaning properly.
3. *Dehydration* - Not drinking enough water. Less flushing = bacteria stay longer.
4. *S*x* - Can push bacteria into the urethra. More common in women because the urethra is shorter.
5. *Tight/ wet clothes* - Sitting in wet underwear, leggings, or pads for too long.
6. *Blocked flow* - Kidney stones, pregnancy, or enlarged prostate in men.
7. *Catheters / spermicides / some birth control* - Can irritate or introduce bacteria.
Women get UTIs more often than men, but anyone can have it.
# # # *COMMON SYMPTOMS TO WATCH FOR*
- Burning when you p*e
- Frequent urge to p*e but little comes out
- Cloudy, strong-smelling, or bloody urine
- Pain in lower belly/back
- Fever/chills = could be spreading to kidneys
# # # *SOLUTIONS & PREVENTION*
*At home / Prevention:*
1. *Water* - Drink 8+ glasses daily. It flushes bacteria out.
2. *Don’t hold it* - P*e when you feel the urge.
3. *Cranberry juice* - Unsweetened can help prevent bacteria from sticking. Not a cure though.
4. *Hygiene* - Wipe front to back. Cotton underwear. Change out of wet clothes fast.
5. *P*e after s*x* - Helps flush bacteria out.
6. *Probiotics/Yogurt* - Good bacteria help balance.
*Medical treatment:*
Antibiotics are the main cure. A doctor will usually do a urine test and give you a 3-7 day course.
Finish ALL the antibiotics even if you feel better.
# # # *IMPORTANT ⚠️*
If you have fever, back pain, blood in urine, or symptoms last more than 2 days, please see a healthcare professional or visit a clinic ASAP. UTIs can spread to the kidneys and get serious.
Also, if you get UTIs often, a doctor can check for underlying causes.
