The King and the Two Farmers
Once upon a time, in a peaceful village, two farmers went to the king’s palace to settle a dispute.
Farmer A said, “Your Majesty, my neighbor stole my cow!”
Farmer B quickly replied, “That’s not true! The cow is mine — I raised it from a calf.”
The king looked at them carefully. Both men insisted they were right. So, instead of making a quick decision, the king said, “Bring me the cow.”
When the cow was brought, the king ordered both men to stand on opposite sides of the palace court. He then said, “Each of you will call the cow. The cow will go to its real owner.”
Farmer A called softly, “Come here, my cow!” The cow didn’t move.
Then Farmer B called, “Come here, my dear!” and immediately, the cow ran toward him and rubbed its head on his arm.
The king smiled and said, “Now I see who the true owner is. The cow has chosen the person who cared for it.”
He turned to Farmer A and said, “You tried to take what was not yours. That is unfair.”
The people praised the king for his fair judgment. He did not listen to words alone; he looked for the truth before deciding.
Moral of the Story:
Fairness in judgment means listening to both sides, finding the truth, and making decisions without favoritism or haste.
