Osun 2026: APC, PDP Clash Over Governor Adeleke’s Screening

The political tension in Osun State has continued to rise as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trade words over the screening of Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Governor Adeleke was screened on Thursday at the PDP National Secretariat, Legacy House, Abuja, along with other aspirants of the party. The exercise was held behind closed doors and attended by key party leaders, including the South West Vice Chairman, Kamarudeen Ajisafe, Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, SSG Teslim Igbalaye, and Commissioners Dr. B.T. Salami and Rev. Bunmi Jenyo.

After the screening, Governor Adeleke told newsmen that he had fulfilled his promises to the people and expressed confidence that his achievements would earn him victory in the 2026 election.

“We have delivered good governance to our people in Osun. Our records and popularity are unmatched. With God and the people on our side, we are ready for another victory,” Adeleke said.

He also said his administration’s performance had brought massive support from the public and that he trusted the Federal Government to ensure a free and fair election.

However, the APC in Osun State reacted sharply, describing the screening as a face-saving move after what it claimed was Adeleke’s failed attempt to defect to the party.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC accused Governor Adeleke of running a “shallow and wasteful administration.”

The statement alleged that more than ₦60 billion had been spent on the Governor’s Office in 35 months without employing new teachers. It also accused the government of poor funding of education, which allegedly forced tertiary institutions to hike fees.

The APC further claimed that over 32,000 citizens were scammed under a fake teacher recruitment scheme, adding that Adeleke’s leadership was “full of mismanagement, misplaced priorities, and waste.”

The party maintained that the governor’s re-election bid was already “dead on arrival,” insisting that the people of Osun had “screened him out” with their dissatisfaction.

According to the APC,

“No political party can save Adeleke from defeat. The people of Osun are tired of poor governance and are waiting for 2026 to reclaim their mandate.”

Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke and the PDP have dismissed all allegations, maintaining that the people remain solidly behind the current administration because of its developmental strides across the state.

Nnamdi Kanu Files Fresh Motion, Demands Dismissal of All Charges

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a new motion before the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking the court to strike out all charges against him and order his immediate release.

In the motion dated October 30, 2025, Kanu argued that the case against him has no legal foundation, saying the charges were based on repealed and invalid laws that no longer exist in Nigeria.

He noted that the prosecution relied on outdated laws such as the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) and the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013, both of which have been replaced by newer legislations.

Kanu, who is representing himself, maintained that no one should be tried for an offence that is not defined by existing law, as stated in Section 36(12) of the 1999 Constitution.

He further argued that some of the alleged offences were said to have happened in Kenya, and according to law, such cases must first be validated by a Kenyan court before they can be tried in Nigeria, making the current trial invalid.

The IPOB leader urged the court to dismiss the charges completely, describing them as “a nullity ab initio” (invalid from the start).

He also asked that the court compel the prosecution to reply to his motion within three days and deliver its ruling on or before November 4, 2025.

"I Wasn’t Happy Being African, But Now I’m So Proud” ~ Tiwa Savage Celebrates Afrobeats Growth

Nigerian music superstar, Tiwa Savage, has boldly declared that Afrobeats is unstoppable, shutting down claims that the genre is currently struggling or losing its global influence.

Speaking at the Unstoppable Africans Event, Tiwa said that Afrobeats continues to break new records, fill stadiums, and top international charts proving critics wrong.

She recalled her childhood experience growing up in London, revealing that she once felt unhappy being African, but the global success of Afrobeats has made her deeply proud of her roots.

“I remember growing up in London and I was not happy being African. But now, I’m so proud because of how big Afrobeats is growing,” she said.

Tiwa Savage explained that despite the lack of support and proper music infrastructure, Afrobeats has become the fastest-growing genre in the world, powered by raw passion and creativity.

“We created Afrobeats with nothing, no support, no structure, no belief at the start. But today, we are filling stadiums and getting the biggest songs on global charts,” she added.

The singer also emphasized the cultural pride that Afrobeats has inspired across Africa and beyond, saying the movement has shown the world that Africans are unstoppable.

“As much as they try to quiet us down, the music is not going anywhere. We are Africans and we are unstoppable,” Tiwa concluded.

Why President Tinubu Granted Clemency to Maryam Sanda ~ Presidency Explains

The Presidency has explained why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu granted clemency to Maryam Sanda, who was sentenced to death in 2020 for killing her husband.

Speaking on Prime Time on Arise Television, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, said that the President’s decision was based on compassion and consideration for her children.

Onanuga clarified that Maryam Sanda was not pardoned, but rather had her sentence reduced from death to 12 years imprisonment.

He said the President took the decision because the act was a crime of passion, not a premeditated one.

“Maryam Sanda was given clemency, not pardon. Her kids were put into consideration. It was a crime of passion, not planned. Anything can happen between a man and a woman in the heat of the moment,” Onanuga explained.

He added that President Tinubu is a leader who listens to the people and is not afraid to reconsider decisions when compassion and fairness demand it.

“This President is not one who fears to reverse himself. He is humane and listens to the public,” he added.

As the countdown to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) continues, the head coach of Uganda, Paul Put, has spoken highly of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, describing them as one of the most dangerous teams in Africa.

He also praised Tunisia for being a very organised side and described Tanzania as a team full of energy and familiarity.

Nothing Good Can Come from Military Rule ~ SDP Chieftain, Adewole Adebayo

Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 general elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has warned Nigerians against supporting any form of military takeover, saying that nothing good ever comes out of military rule.

Adebayo made this statement during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, where he reacted to the recent rumours of a possible coup that caused tension across the country.

He noted that democracy may be fragile, but it remains the best system of government that gives power to the people and promotes accountability.

According to him, “The best way to prevent coups and political crises is through good governance. When leaders perform well, the military will have no reason to interfere.”

He further explained that both military and civilian authorities must ensure transparency and accountability, urging Nigerians to continue supporting civilian leadership as the only path to progress.

Adebayo also warned politicians that bad governance could one day threaten their tenure and stability, just as insecurity threatens the lives of ordinary citizens.

Why President Tinubu Approved 15% Import Duty on Petrol and Diesel ~ FIRS Boss Explains

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has explained why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a 15% import duty on petrol and diesel.

According to Adedeji, the new policy is not meant to increase government revenue but to balance import costs with local realities. He said the decision will help encourage local refinery operations and reduce the price gap between imported and locally refined fuel.

In a memo sent to the President, Adedeji noted that the difference between local refining costs and import prices has caused instability in the fuel market.

He explained that, even after the new adjustment, fuel prices in Nigeria will still remain lower than those in neighbouring countries such as Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana.

The FIRS boss also stated that the move is a corrective measure to support local refineries and ensure fair competition among marketers.

However, the policy has sparked mixed reactions across the country.
Some Nigerians and political leaders, including Chief Ayiri Emami, have urged the President to reverse the decision, saying it could bring hardship to the people.

On the other hand, economist Bismark Rewane believes the policy is a positive step that will boost local fuel production and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on importation.

Maduka Okoye Happy to Return to Football After Betting Ban

Nigerian international and Udinese goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, has expressed his happiness to be back on the field after serving a two-month suspension over a betting-related case.

Okoye was banned in July 2025 for his alleged involvement in a betting scandal, a period he described as one of the toughest moments in his career.

The Super Eagles shot-stopper made his return two weeks ago in a Serie A match against Cremonese and featured again on Wednesday night in Udinese’s 3-1 loss to Juventus, marking his third appearance of the season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Okoye said:

“I’ve been out for a while, and it’s always difficult to be without football. But the goalkeeping coaches and the players have always helped me. I feel good, I’m happy, I want to grow, and I learn every day.”

Okoye’s return has brought relief to fans who have long admired his confidence and agility between the posts. As Udinese continue their Serie A campaign, the 26-year-old remains focused on regaining full form and contributing to his team’s success.
