But Chike had already prepared false witnesses.
Two men claimed they had seen Obinna carrying the calabash toward the forest.
The elders believed them.
Obinna was ordered to leave the village until the truth could be discovered.
As he walked away, he looked back at his brother.
“Chike,” he said sadly, “you are my blood. Why would you do this to me?”
Chike looked away.

Obinna was the elder brother. He was hardworking, generous, and respected by everyone in the village.
Chike, however, was different. He was clever but jealous. Whenever people praised Obinna, Chike secretly wished he could have everything his brother had.
Their father, Eze Nwosu, was a wealthy farmer who owned large palm plantations.
Before he died, he called his two sons together.
“My children,” he said weakly, “your greatest wealth is not this land. It is your brotherhood. Never allow greed to separate you.”
He then gave Obinna a small golden calabash.
“This belonged to our ancestors. Protect it. It will remind you that family is more valuable than wealth.”
Obinna promised.
Chike also promised—but his eyes remained fixed on the golden calabash.
After their father's death, the brothers divided the land equally.
For a while, everything was peaceful.
But Chike's jealousy grew.
One evening, he whispered to himself:
“Why should Obinna have the golden calabash? Why should he always be the one everyone respects?”
Then he made a terrible decision.
He would betray his own brother.
