RETURNING TO NIGERIA'S FOUR ORIGINAL REGIONS:
A SOLUTION TO THE NATION'S HARDSHIP

A CHAT WITH BISHOP IKUPOLATI,
Former bishop of diocese of Ijumu (Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion)

Our democracy is flawed. Our electoral process and judiciary are our enemies. We need to address the leadership problem: are people elected to enrich themselves or to better the lives of the populace with national resources?

We lack regulatory systems for checks and balances in leadership. In fact, we should dissolve all political apparatus and base the election of our leaders on a system independent of political platforms. Leaders should be disallowed from owning excessive properties.

To overcome these issues, let us return to our four regions of East, West, Middle Belt, and North, and re-emphasize the secular status of the nation. Each region should be free to produce what they are capable of for internal consumption and export.

We need state police, and the salaries of the national assembly must be drastically reduced. Poverty and ignorance plague the land, so free education should be compulsory at all levels.

Finally, we must let the God of creation be our God. Many leaders are satanic agents. We need to preach freedom and an egalitarian society from the Bible. Let the political elites allow for divine guidance and human development.

How we honor God in our giving matters profoundly. It's a paradox that we meticulously prepare fresh notes for worldly celebrations, displaying our wealth with enthusiasm.

Yet, as Sunday approaches, we often resort to presenting God with the crumpled, neglected notes accumulated throughout the week for tithe and offering.

This stark contrast raises the question: Is this truly the reverence we should show to our benevolent God, the giver of all good things?

Some may argue that God doesn't spend the money, dismissing the significance. However, if we meticulously arrange clean notes for worldly indulgences, shouldn't we recognize that God deserves more than our neglected ones?

Even in moments of financial constraint, opting for electronic transfers instead of presenting worn bills at church reflects a deeper commitment to honoring God with our best because this is what I do if I discover that I don't have clean notes.

Another Sunday is approaching, let us remain steadfast in acknowledging and showing our Creator the utmost respect He deserves in every aspect of our lives by referencing Him with our best in gratitude.

Yours truly,
Olamide Abidemi Akintola

Hymn for the week.

I AM THINE, O LORD!

1. I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith,
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Refrain:
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

[Refrain]

3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God,
I commune as friend with friend!

[Refrain]

4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

[Refrain]

Happy Sunday.

HYMN FOR THE WEEK.

Christian, seek not yet repose

1. Christian, seek not yet repose,
Hear thy gracious Savior say;
Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray.

2. Principalities and powers,
Mustering their unseen array,
Wait for thy unguarded hours:
Watch and pray.

3. Gird thy heavenly armor on,
Wear it ever night and day;
Ambushed lies the evil one:
Watch and pray.

4. Hear the victors who o’ercame,
Still they mark each warrior’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
Watch and pray.

5. Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou lovest to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word:
Watch and pray.

6. Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.
