I watched the video of this woman pouring out the wine meant for her daughter on her traditional marriage day, and honestly, it made me pause.

Because whether we like it or not, something is changing in our society.

If you choose to be a deadbeat parent, this generation of women may not cover for you anymore. They will call you out, cut off the access you once took for granted, and eventually, that mindset may become a precedent that others follow.

But here is the part I want us to think about:

When a marriage ends, should the relationship between a parent and their child automatically end too?

This is why I actually respect any parent who keeps pushing to remain present in their children’s lives, even when the relationship with the other parent has completely broken down.

Because children grow up.

One day, they will ask questions.
One day, they will form their own opinions.
And one day, they may want to know who showed up for them when they were growing up.

Dear man or woman, if you genuinely love your children, don’t disappear simply because your marriage failed.

And if you are the parent standing in the way of the other parent’s relationship with their child, ask yourself this:

Are you protecting your child… or are you punishing your ex?

Because tomorrow, that child may be old enough to judge the situation for themselves.

Marriage can end.

Parenthood shouldn't.
